Two days of pure joy from our trip to the Swedish Laplands this summer. This is a collection of earlier published videos, slightly faster edited, and a few more fish added.

An alarm bell should be rung for this place ASAP because of extreme pressure on this beautiful small valley river. Natural environment has been impacted already. While there is still plenty of char coming from lake, native trout population obviously decreases. At least three fishing camps in a river valley (5 km length) and several more in mountains nearby. From 3 to 7 fishermen in each camp. You can easily count how many fish is taken from river each day. Besides You can imagine traffic on a river banks and impact on natural environment. We were four fly fishermen. We caught 10 trouts (larger one 50 cm) and at least 15 times more char (35-45 cm) during 9 fishing days in these places. 4 trouts and 12 chars kept. There were lot of spin fishermen. Most fishermen we met were from Finland but also from Sweden. In order to restore and keep natural balance of this valley appropriate restrictions and limitations definitely should be applied by local authorities. The best way probably could be applying quotas and establishing fly fishing only zone. Probably place should rest for a few years and fishing should be prohibited in river for a while.

Excellent. Lovely film. I've fished Swedish Lapland and enjoyed it very much. Utterly beautiful. The mosquito density is staggering. Wearing a head net I had to stop fishing at intervals to brush off the bugs in order to see through the net. They bit through my half-mitt gloves. I did wonder what the heck they would be eating if they were not eating me. I'm glad I did it, and I caught plenty of nice fish, but couldn't go back into those clouds of blood suckers. Maybe better after an autumnal frost or two kills them off.
@CarpeDiemFlyfishing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Appreciate it :) Yeah, the mosquitoes can be overwhelming at times. But on the other hand we've noticed that the quality of the fishing and the amount of mosquitoes have a very strong correlation so for us the mosquitoes are a positive thing. Makes it easier to cope with them. I guess they are using mass-production as a strategy to survive up there. As you say they don't have much to eat and if they mass-produce they increase the possibility that some of the insects will find food and survive. We never use head net while fishing, only when we're taking a nap during the day. Strong repellant works quite well. Cheers

Hey Guy's Im from the United States, and I was wondering if you guys are using single flys and if so how long are your leaders? I have been flyfishing for maybe 16 years still young and learning every day, thanks again.
@CarpeDiemFlyfishing3 жыл бұрын
Hey Gregory. We always use single flies. It's the main method in Sweden. The length of the leader depends on how clear the water is. If it's clear, like in this video, we normally use a leader 1,5-2 times the length of the rod. If it's a bit more muddy water we might go down to one rod length (approx 9 ft). Cheers

There will be at least one more area in Sweden Lapland (Norrbotten county) where fishing will be prohibited starting from year 2023. Hundreds of arctic chars will circle slowly in the crystal clear waters, large trout will pick up insects from the surface with a gentle splash, heavily used trails will overgrow and everything will be as it was before Lapland dream was dreamt. Thus, with radical methods, the fisheries management of the Norrbotten county administrative board is forced to fight consequences of excessive pressure caused by getting exposed over the internet. Although place is not really named here it did not help a lot since there are free tools available on the internet that allow you to find virtually any spot by few important characteristics. It is only responsible and reasonable not to expose characteristics for such a special places. These were state license waters not protected by any additional regulations. But movie are really beautiful. All of them from Lapland dream series about small river :) Do not be ashamed to keep quiet about your special places. Keep them just for yourselves and your best friends!
