This is so right. Just bought my first Defender, it's a 1988 90 and I absolutely love it.

This is probably my favourite video on the whole of you tube, it sums up perfectly why I love Defenders so much, why I need to buy another one and why my Discovery TD5 just doesn't quite cut it. Unfortunetly every time I watch it my desire for another Land Rover Defender goes to a basic need!

I long for a world where not everything must be efficient, mathematical, deliver by the book, I want my parcel of deep emotion, no asphalt under my feet, engine noise like music. I want a world with soul, a friend to have a Scotch with after a hard day. I admire the beauty that stands timeless, a part of me enjoys the rough corners produced by pen and paper design instead of a supercomputer. For a world of broad horizons and just my hands to steer and my heart to blend with the trip...

+Antonio Molina - Crikey Antonio, as Auto Trader says, 'rather beautiful', but I'm not sure that a Land Rover will help you with all that lot, however! Good luck with all that though.

I bought my first Land Rover Defender just in August this year, a 1999 110 Hardtop TD5, since then I just don't find any other vehicle desireable enough. I did have a choice of buying a Range Rover instead, but I just had to get a Defender. It had been a fantasy being made true, after I parted ways with my first car, a 1991 Toyota MR2 G-Limited SW20. It's like owning a Rolls-Royce or a Ferrari, you just know that your vehicle is the most capable vehicle compared to every other vehicle on the road. Everywhere you go, it defines you and people just turn their heads towards you as you make your grand appearance. It really is a vehicle that individuals with (OCD) mindsets of revolutionaries would choose to have. You love its flaws, and so does everyone else surprisingly. Men, Women, Children, Pensioners all alike. You can drive up to a 5 star hotel and park it amongst Bentleys and Porsches, and no one could judge you whether you're rich or not, you look like someone of significance regardless. You make refinements to it, one bit at a time, it becomes one of a kind, and appreciates in value.

If i had a choice to get a defender for free or an aston Martin, or a bentley, or any supercar, for free, i would take the aston. So i could sell it to get a defender and have enough to maintain it etc for a while.

I test drove a defender 110 and coming from an Audi I thought what a slow, smelly, noisy piece of crap. 6 months later I’d bought one😳. That was 14 years ago I still have it and it has been my only car since. In a world of bland characterless cars it’s a breath of fresh (smelly) air. Great video by the way👍

The most misunderstood (especially by the current (2019) CEO of JLR), longest lived, versatile and capable vehicles ever built! Interwoven into the British cultural DNA.

The tdi engine was also standard in defenders but people swap disco ones to defender with other engines as the discos rot but the engines are generally fine

A really great video clip and explains people's love of Defenders really well. In a world of bland, they really do stand out. The only thing I would say is, I disagree about there look and it's not beautiful, the truck looks amazing and they still turn heads every day

What, only have one ? am very worried , you show symptoms of addiction, I started when I had a ride in a 1971 range rover and have been taking Bronze Green pills ever since ,cant go more than half a cars length before the need for the green grabs me in a shiver, still could be worse, might dream that the defender has been cancelled.......

Do you mean on road on conventional tyres, two people with not much luggage, on a day when there is no wind and no other traffic? Or offroad with all the extras you could imagine?

Sgt C4 Ok. The vehicle featured has either a 200 or 300 tdi engine in it, as the man said, one from a Defender, so, on the road, light load, two up with road tyres you'd be looking at 26 to 30 mpg. My own 300 tdi of a similar age gives me 28 on a long run. Off Road with Mud Tyres and probably half a ton of bolt on bits, winch, extra battery, roof rack, more lights, heavier wheels and so on, in low range second gear for much of the time perhaps with a bit of deep wading and some heavy mudding I'd say around 18 mpg. Both mpg's dependant on your own driving skills of course. Wading depths deeper than the headlights, say up to the height of the bonnet might bring the mpg down to around 10 if done for any length of time. We have a flood prone fen near here where a drive of five miles with water over the bonnet can be enjoyed at certain times of the year.
@noscopesallowed81288 жыл бұрын
John Smith That's actually really good for a vehicle like this... Why does everyone complain about horrible mpg?
