Land Rover Discovery 2 TD5 Rocker Valve Cover Gasket Replacement How To

Here is a how-to guide for replacing the rocker valve cover gasket on a Land Rover Discovery 2 TD5, it is a 15p engine (later mode, has egr cooler/fpr return). It's an easy DIY job, you will need a basic socket set, torque wrench and some cleaning cloths and the job should take around 20-30 mins.
We're replacing ours because it's leaking small amounts of oil at the back, and dripping down onto the floor and we suspect the gasket has been brittle due to age heat etc. The bolts for the rocker cover are 10mm and torqued to 10Nm when finished. Ensure you buy the correct gasket as there are 10p and 15p engine variants.

The worst bit is fitting the cover and making sure that half-moon goes into the right place. That plastic bit at the rear of the head is missing on mine so the job is easier. On the 10p engines, a smear of sealant goes on the back edge of the gasket.

we did, it was the copper traces/fingers on the rotary part had arched and just needed cleaning up to fix it

If you're taking the rocker cover off, why wouldn't you change the injector loom while you're in there?

thanks for your comment, it has been replaced previously and currently no ingress of oil into the injector harness loom connector near the rocker cover nor in the two black/red ecu block connectors.
