I have owned a 2016 Discovery Sport for a year and I would recommend it to anyone in the market...with a few caveats. First, the powertrain as purchased was a huge let down. The turbo lag was languid, the transmission indecisive and the MPG was average at best (21 MPG overall). This was solved with a performance chip which corrected air/ fuel mixture, throttle response and corrected horsepower and torque curve. Now I can say that acceleration is on par with a Porsche Cayenne and I am now getting 28.9 MPG overall! Second, fit and finish. Fit was actually pretty good, and I experienced no squeaks/ rattles like some others complain about. Fingers crossed that it will continue. Finish was/ is not as good as my friends Range Rover, but then again, I purchased it CPO for $35,000 as compared to his tag of $68,000. I have also opted for some minor material changes such as stainless steel pedals, stainless steel center console cover and two storage trays from amazon. Lastly, off-road capability is very Wrangler-Like! I have forded over two feet of water and impressed all with a nice mud hole crossing display to help a stranded Silverado!

After three years of ownership I have traded it in for an Audi Q7 for two reasons. 1. Poor customer service at the Jaguar/Land Rover located in Charlotte NC. I made an appointment two weeks out for a service and had the appointment literally taken from me by a man right in front of me. When I confronted the service manager he explained that the man had bought three Range Rovers from them and was a preferred customer. 2. It did not do well while towing my 19 foot bass boat. Too light Brakes not powerful enough Blind spot monitoring system did not like trailering To be clear, it was a good SUV, I just wanted something different for towing purposes. I will not hold the poor customer experience against the Disco.
@jamesgrindle3521
@jamesgrindle3521 2 жыл бұрын
It was actually, but only after the performance chip. It also depends on the cayenne drivetrain and year. My best 0-60 time was 5.6 seconds after using the performance chip rated for 60 hp increase. On the dyno it came in at 274bhp at wheels and 296 lbs ft of torque.

all the hate about the looks and interiors of this car is justified but there's actually not a better allrounder package than this car. This car will pass the test of time. The interiors though not being very exciting are one of the most practical found in cars of this range. The build quality is amazing and is one of the safest cars around as well. The biggest downside however is the 2.0 litre engine. If you are looking for a proper SUV that you won't change for the next 5 6 years and have other cars as well you can't go wrong with the discovery

Very well put together review. This bloke is a very good presenter. The way he actually demonstrates everything he is talking about, especially the rear seats was very impressive. Well done mate. I can't believe the amount of people talking down the interior. Okay its not as nice as the models above, but its all relative to price. This is 10 grand cheaper than an Evoque and half the price of a Range Rover, come on...

Love the new Disco Sport. I have a Evoque right now but sometimes need a little more room with my 3 and soon to be 4 dogs. I actually quite like the simplistic interior. I don't need all the luxury my Evoque has inside and would rather have the Disco Sports interior and not be afraid to have a little dirt or muck splashed on the inside or outside for that matter. I'm definitely going to check the new Discovery Sport out when it is available.

I have the hse lux 2.2 with black pack ( same as tested here)and for me it looks great. mpg wise I have a heavy right foot but I’m still getting around 32mpg on ave...no it’s not a perfect car..there’s no such thing but as an all round package it works well and looks better than any bmw/Audi or Japanese equivalent.the interior fit and finish is better than the camera suggests and certainly feels more premium than a ford kuga for example even though they share components. Reliability wise the only problem I’ve ever had was a blocked fuel filter which Land Rover missed on last service(I know ..shocker that a main dealer cuts corners eh?😉).. I would say though make sure you have a warranty for peace of mind as no doubt any repairs will be expensive as with most premium suvs and you keep the battery tip top as the tailgate and stop start will drain it slightly if you do mostly town driving... as for the gearbox the paddle shifters are not necessary IMO with the 9 speed auto and are rarely used as they don’t really suit the cars performance especially with the single clutch gearbox...better off just using std drive mode which once you get used to the accelerator pedal pressure it gives an effortless drive with decent acceleration when called upon. off road I’ve personally only driven through muddy fields so far which was an absolute breeze. Adjustable suspension would be the cherry on the cake though.. pity it’s not present..for a car in this price bracket it should be standard.
@yanisbosch3181
@yanisbosch3181 9 жыл бұрын
We tested it last friday and it was really good, but it's a shame that the suspension ruined it all. While it cornered well and dealt well with big bumps you could feel all the little ones which made the seats "rattle"

I like it. The latest design series from Land Rover is pretty descent I think, certainly the exterior. The practicality of the car is pretty good as well and I like the interior. Still, I think the interior of the X3 is a bit nicer and it probably will drive quite a bit better but I haven't driven the Discovery Sport yet so I can't really tell.

What do you recommend for someone who is in love with her current Freelander? She's dying and i'm gonna have to get a new one soon. The Freelander is no more and i'm looking for the closest relative.
@carbuyer
@carbuyer 8 жыл бұрын
+imakefoodhappen Well the Discovery Sport is probably the closest blood relative, but it's pretty expensive. We'd recommend having a look at the Mazda CX-3 and CX-5 (depending how big you want it!) or if you want something cheap and cheerful, the Dacia Duster. What is it about the Freelander you love so much? Is 4x4 a priority?
@imakefoodhappen
@imakefoodhappen 8 жыл бұрын
+Carbuyer Well they're all incredibly expensive here in Turkey so i may as well find my favorite. I've had my Freelander for more than 10 years, i'm just so used to it and i always thought i would just get the exact same one when the time comes, but there is not one Freelander left in Turkey : ) 4x4 is a priority, yes and i don't like the fancy look of the most newer ones like the Evoque. I like a more sports, almost military look, but i don't want something very big. Freelander felt like the perfect size. The Dacia Duster looks attractive, i should look into that. I always felt very safe in the Freelander, do you think The Dacia Duster is as safe?
@ChewBacca2339
@ChewBacca2339 8 жыл бұрын
+imakefoodhappen Cars are taxed way too high in Turkey. Moved here with a Mercedes E-Class and our next car was a Nissan Qashqai. :-)
@carbuyer
@carbuyer 8 жыл бұрын
+imakefoodhappen The Dacia Duster is probably pretty comparable to a ten-year-old Freelander in terms of safety, but it depends on the specifications of the vehicle in Turkey. The Duster is terrific value for money and it performs properly off-road (I drove one a couple of months ago and it was very sure-footed in the mud!). It probably won't feel as 'premium' as a modern Land Rover but in terms of practicality and cost, it's hard to beat.

Actually, after I watched this I went for testing this car and found the quality of material is fabulous except for that plastic part which I don't know how did they missed it in such a luxury SUV. However, I have never seen any of ultra luxury segment SUV owners make any use of the luggage compartment of their automobiles however big it might be.
