I recently completed the tranny filter/ fluid change and the ZF electronic sleeve replacement. Here's my pointers for you: 1) The ZF fluid looked great, even though it had 192,000 miles on a 08 LR3, no previous tranny service.. In hindsight I would have never touched it. It had no leaks, with great shifting. 2) The sleeve replacement can be a frustrating job. This will make it easier. Completely remove the transmission support member. Use a 24mm socket to drive the new ZF sleeve in, after lubing it up. 3) I used a metal pan, with a separate filter, as the replacement. Available at AtlanticBrittish.

@Physics0722 ай бұрын
@@joeianniello I have that same kit and installed it around 89k miles but never had any issues before or after. I don't remember did the Atlantic Kits steel pan have a drain plug in it? Was thinking of just draining the fluid using a drain plug then using the side fill plug to add. Sure wont get it all but better than nothing. Maybe after another 50k miles though. Maybe its good to 200k not sure.

Not a bit actually it makes it shift better , I think we’re pushing about 15,000 miles on it so far. And I haven’t had any issue with it. I hope that’s the case with everyone of course I can’t be sure but I know in my situation I haven’t touched it since. I think the additive helped a little bit as well I was getting a limp mode condition When I would accelerate hard from 55 miles an hour to 80 miles an hour and that is not doing it no more so that’s great so far my results have been very very positive
@benjaminramos30542 жыл бұрын
Hi great video I’m filling up my transmission due to me not plugging the hoses that go to the radiator how much additive did you add ? Whole bottle or part ?
@GunsAndRovers11 ай бұрын
That’s the FILL plug you keep incorrectly referring to as the drain plug. Also your video is just a fluid level check-there’s no drain procedure as stated in the video title. Draining is the hardest part of this job due to limited access to get the pan out. That’s what we need to see.
@ColdSun875 ай бұрын
Can't you just vacuum the transmission fluid out? I recently got a vacuum for the motor oil and was wondering if there was a way you could extract the transmission fluid with it as well.
@GunsAndRovers5 ай бұрын
@@ColdSun87 No, there’s no vacuum port for the Transmission. Definitely not on an LR4 and less likely on a LR3.
@ColdSun875 ай бұрын
@vido4x4 this is an LR3 in the video, not an LR4... I knew there wasn't an actual vacuum port, but as long as you can get the hose in there you should be able to extract it (via full plug).
@GunsAndRovers5 ай бұрын
@@ColdSun87 I’m aware this is an LR3 video but they are very similar vehicles 1 generation apart. I suppose you can do what you are suggesting if you have an extraction device. However, to change the tranny filter you will have to drop the pan, which is the hard part due to the cross frame member in the way. Replacing fluids (oil or trans fluid) without changing the old filter is a half-assed job which can cause problems down the road. Also, I’m not confident those oil vacuum devices pick up all the heavier, dirty oil deposits from the bottom of the pan. Which is why I drain my fluids the old school way-crawling under the car and removing the drain plug.

That Mercon is the last thing you want to put in those vehicles. Use the correct zf fluid guys. That particular transmission is very sensitive to foreign oils. Trust me do not put anything but zf fluid.
@sharpcarco3 жыл бұрын
I think you should’ve watch the video….. Then delete your comment
@dukeyhowzer3 жыл бұрын
@@sharpcarco I did. I've seen plenty of zf transmissions come in with foreign fluid in them. Some can take it, others cannot. The lr3 transmission is a model that is particular. They say sealed for life, but it needs to be serviced every 75000. The only thing that may be holding yours together is the additive. However, after a while your torque converter will fail. The signs are a stumbling idle at 1500 rpm around 45 mph. This is from the torque converter locking and unlocking. The mercon fluid does not have the proper additives to keep this from happening. That transmission when properly maintained can easily reach 300000 miles. I've seen it
@sharpcarco3 жыл бұрын
Well you must have missed when I put the additive inside it but that’s OK I’ve got 20,000 more miles on it than when I did this video. Can you take your dollars out and you give them to anybody you want I prefer to keep mine in my pocket as long as I possibly can thank you for your advice

Well thank you very much Joe for the kind words I greatly appreciate it and we’re very happy to happy to have you. Well most people think I’m wearing the mask because of Covid……. Because during Covid the dog ate my false teeth and I was Embarrassed about it…… It’s going to needless to say at this point but I don’t wear a mask anywhere…. Ijs don’t really care what others do but don’t really see where it’s going to help either by appearance or safety. Just my opinion . Anyways I hope you enjoy my explanation and there were microphone problems with my phone as well at that time but on with the show regardless.
