It's been a while since we took a step back and looked at the rolling restoration of my 1976 Land Rover Series 3. Since the last update the front and rear axles have been overhauled and the suspension all round has been renewed. The Land Rover rides brilliantly now and the only outstanding mechanical issue is the gearbox, jumping our of second gear. This will hopefully be rebuilt in due time. Next on the agenda is a lovely new back door from Paintman Panels and then hopefully a full colour change back to the original Limestone.
Thanks for watching!

oil the leaf springs up with a mixture of oil and diesel, then wrap them neatly in Denso tape, keeps the crap out and the oil in, my old series 3 actually felt like it had suspension.

Have look at lanoguard, might be good to spray on your springs

Just drive around for a mile or so with the yellow knob down Easier than engaging the hubs and it whips the oil round just the same. I do it fairly frequently and it also keeps the output shaft selector rod used to going in and out. That can rust and make 4 W d hard to get in and out of

Not a bad idea, thanks!

In terms of ‘oil’ for your new leaf springs I can highly recommend Bilt Hamber Ferrosol. It’s like WD40 but far superior.

Get leather gaitor for the high/low lever. They are great, and they lasts. I found it on ebay.

Hi! Thanks for watching! The silver is just a shop-bought ‘wheel silver’ spray can, no colour code as such. All the best with your work!

For the leaf springs have you considered motor cycle chain grease. There are spray types that spray on thin then turn into grease which looks like it would be well suited to the leaf springs. Theres probably less types around now as most chains are O or X ring nowadays. For the steering wheel center boss You might try VHT wrinkle coat Ive just done some accessories for my bike and it works a treat. Example kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmrJfKlro8eFq9k&ab_channel=tweedbean

Ah, that sounds like a great idea for grease, thank you! I’ve seen that paint and wasn’t sure how it would turn out but I’ll maybe give it a go now that you recommend it. Thanks!

@@restosaga I've been looking for spray can "wrinkle coat" for years and only recently found VHT. Follow the simple 3 coat approach with 5 min between coat and all's well. I live in Asia so heat isn't a problem but I've seen guys in Europe enhance the drying process gently with a heat gun That seems to work really well for colder climates. Good luck
