A Rare Opportunity to Acquire an Exceptionally Original, Unmolested & Very Desirable 1971 Series 2a Land Rover 88" Short Wheel Base.
Just, 2 previous owners. First registered 25th August 1971. This vehicle has been in the Beverley, West Yorkshire area all its life. It was supplied new by Gordon Armstrong (North Bar) Ltd. The original sales invoices is in the history file along with the original owners manual. Mr. Kirby owned the vehicle from new until, 1997 when it passed to Mr. Armstrong who ran a local garage and used to look after the vehicle. We did the restoration and recommissioning work and sold it to a customer 2 years ago who has now decided to part with the vehicle.

YWF 298K comes with lots of old mots which shows the very small increase in mileage every year. Unique in such original condition and we think this is one of the most original 1971 examples available. This vehicle is a very late Series 2a, the most distinct feature is the headlights in the wings.
To find an unmolested example has become very hard, but to find one that has such great history, retains all of its original panels, interior and even all of its original factory paint finish well that's unheard of...............
BODYWORK
When we acquired YWF 298K we were amazed to find the body and paint finish is 100% original, and way above the average 53 year old Series IIA Land Rover. However, YWF 298K is not your average Series IIA Land Rover, it is extraordinary.
The wheels and roof are finished in Limestone, which is factory correct for a 1971 Land Rover in Mid Grey. The rivets on the rear panels were never finished in body colour when they left the factory this is how it remains on this vehicle. The bulkhead is exceptionally solid and original, in fact as good as we have ever seen, we have replaced the drivers footwell with the correct swaged panel.
You can still see the factory overspray under the bonnet, wings and rear body this is exactly how they left the factory. No welding is required anywhere on this vehicle and it is now ready to go.
INTERIOR
Exemplary - by far the best original Land Rover Series IIA. The original factory fitted front seat backs are in good condition as are the bases they have never been replaced and are the originals to the vehicle.
The load area is clean with the correct ribbed rear mat. Matching rear black vinyl bench seats can be fitted should the buyer wish, however we wanted to show how straight and unmolested the vehicle is.
UNDER THE BONNET
One of the best original engine bays we have seen on a Series 2a.
The vehicle has had extensive recommissioning which has included the following. The engine has recently had the fuel pump and injectors refurbished and now runs very well, the head was removed and inspected.
The vehicle has also had all the axles rebuilt, including sand blasting and professionally repainting. We have also fitted the vehicle to a new galvanised chassis, as the old one required repairs and to do the vehicle justice and see it around for another 50 years plus, this was the best way to go. The chassis has been painted in satin black to look authentic. This also included all new bushes, brake pipes, shoes, drums, new clutch. Suspension all renewed.
SUMMARY
YWF 298K is an unmolested Series 2A Hardtop in immaculate original condition. This is one of the best low mileage and original untouched Series 2A's we have ever had the opportunity to own with a very nice history.
This Land Rover has obviously been cared for and cherished by its owner and no expense spared on maintenance. What you see is what you get. YWF 298K retains much of its original paint finish - albeit with a few aged dings, scratches and marks. Please therefore do not expect absolutely pristine. However, you will have to go a long way to find a better vehicle. Opportunities to purchase a genuine, original, low mileage vehicle don't often come up so please don't miss this one.
