At last! The final part of this mini series on rebuilding and restoring the front axle and suspension of my 1976 Land Rover Series 3 88" diesel rolling restoration project. This job has taken a lot longer than I anticipated but I am delighted with the results. This video has the finishing work on the driver's side swivel housing, hubs installed, brakes adjusted and a test drive. I also cover the Fairey Free Wheeling Hubs that I have bought for this Land Rover.
Nothing quite like a good test drive in the snow and this Land Rover got a good 200 miles under it wheels to make sure it was running well.

So I was wondering why you went for military rubber swivel gaiters, as opposed to leather ones, have you used the leather in the past at all and didn’t get on with them? Thanks

Hi! Thanks for watching! I liked the idea of the rubber gaiter and seal retainer all being one single unit. Also, the military aren't known to be gentle so I thought these may last a but longer. I did not like the of the leather ones needing 'tied-up' in case they did not fully seal and instead just trapped muck inside. I have no experience of the leather ones but just thought these looked good! Good question, thanks!

@@restosaga Thanks for the reply definitely food for thought, and the videos are a really nice motivation that’s helped me crack on with my own 2a SWB rebuild. Will at some point be rebuilding my swivels, and was also wondering during driving was there any noticeable signs of “bad swivels” or simply they were visually rusty, pitted and leaking everywhere. Keep up the good work!

Thanks, I’m glad you enjoy the videso. Positive comments like this keep me motivated 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 Thankfully I had no ill effects on the driving, just heavy leaks really. I have a tarmac driveway and it was making a big mess everywhere!

Hi! That’s to come in a future video. I’m planning to repair it but it’ll need a fairly major strip down to access it so I’m just enjoying being able to drive the Landy again before taking off the road for a while.

Rubber gaiter look good but I found don't last, leather much better
