Hi Joel, great to see you back, you globe trotter you! 👍 Someone mentioned silicon fluid. I asked my local LR Club for views, the consensus is don’t bother: “I'd be hesitant. Fine if you have a modern vehicle designed for it but Series braking system gets moisture and air in the system with the best of maintenance...the seals aren't brilliant. So.. it's good because it doesn't soak up moisture but also bad for us because it won't mix with moisture if it does get in. I would imagine it would not play nicely with old rubber that is contaminated with older fluid. To be safe I would replace every rubber seal in the braking system. Maybe I'm over thinking that but I think it would do bad things mixing. You'd have to *fully* drain the old fluid out as it won't mix with 3/4. Flush DOT5 through twice I suppose? Doable if you think there's a benefit. I've not replaced the fluid in Red for many years and it'll lock up all four wheels. Tends to get a flush when I need a new cylinder” And from a LR mechanic in response: “It’s ok to use it but ha to fit all new seals to match the fluid as it eats the rubber 1s” The first comment came from Alex, he’s done x5 big charity rallies including London to Beijing in his old Series 2 ex-mil LR. beijing-rally.blogspot.com/?m=0 The second comment came from an ex-army LR mechanic. I totally trust their guidance.

Good idea with the grease , WhenI replace brake cylinders I start the 5/16 nuts a few turns so it's loose on the back plate then start the brake pipe so it's in about halfway then tighten the nuts then tighten the pipe. Leaving the outside nuts loose gives a certain amount of wriggle room to start the brake pipe ,I've had the cross threading problem in the past and since doing them this way touch wood I've not had the problem again.

Thanks Cory, great to hear from you. I’m also going to try silicon break fluid. Some say it’s the answer for cars which stand around for long periods. Like MINE! 😅

@@My911 silicon might be a good idea. I never used it before. Mine sit a lot too. I’ve always used DOT3. Brake fluid is all synthetic either way. Interested in hear your review on silicon fluid. Nice to see the old girl being some love, again.

Schade.... leider zeigst Du nur die Hälfte der Bremsenüberholung. Wie man die Bremsbeläge montiert, die Bremsbeläge einstellst, entlüftest hast Du weggelassen.
