Dear All,
Welcome back to the channel, and another video in the Land Rover collection.
It's been a couple of months since I made this video, but work and life being what they are, I have only now got round to editing it. With some encouragement from a few subscribers... ;)
Sorry about the false start just now, I uploaded the video to YT and it was set public without me editing the title and description etc. God knows whats changed in the firmware recently.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the video and I look forward to your feedback, questions and tips.
Kind regards
Joël

Very precise alignment. I put anti seize between the drum and hub. Makes easier to get the drum off later. Might slow down the rust too.

Yes, a good idea. I have done this in other cars but didn’t this time. Will do so at some point. Great to see the mammoth progress you are making Cory. Such a lovely truck. Have a great Christmas and New Year. Regards Joël

Thanks Joel, that looks like a technique I need to try, once I’ve fitted the new alternator, heater pipes and a thoroughly detailed clean. Although I strongly suspect I will soon be buying various ball joints 🤦🏻 to add to my shopping list..
@My911
@My911 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, well that all sounds like a sound investment. Definitely worth doing the ball joints before you set the alignment. Otherwise you’ll end up doing it twice. Or just do it twice of course, adds to the experience. 😀

Great to see another interesting video, Joel. I've not seen that technique before so must try that with mine sometime. Keep up the good work and have a great Christmas and New Year.

Nice side line, wheel alignment the old fashioned way, £40 a go I'm thinking. 😉

Nice to know you are still alive! Great to see you Sir. Before you buy new drums, take those to a shop and have them re-machined..... If they still are no good, THEN buy new drums..... In the USA, that is not that expensive.... Never saw that alignment method before.... I was sort of taught a method with strings running the length of the vehicle.... But, quite honestly, even the guys who taught me that, would freely admit, this gets you CLOSE... Depending on what it is, hey, close could be better than good enough.... Now, don't take this the wrong way... I'm not saying you did a bad job, or anything of the sort... but you had a lot of parts off... You replaced a lot of parts... You don't know where it was before, and you don't know where it is now.... Pros, with the machine, could say hey, look, this is what we found, and straighten it out, and it could well be something you'd have no way of measuring for.... The truck looks great. The truck is legit. You have done a great job, Sir. It deserves, to be put on the machine, and straightened out, so that it drives nice, looks nice, and is as impressive as it should be.... Again, in the USA, you can pay, I dunno $100, to put it on a really good machine, with lasers & all that, and that should get you aligned.... Or get you close at the very least... Some shops have a deal where you pay a little extra, but for the next year, you can keep bringing it back.... I don't know if that exists in East Germany, but, you might look into it.... If you are not happy, if you keep bringing it back, and try to tell them, as best you can, what is going on... Like, "Hey guys, in big high speed sweeping turns, it acts like it's fighting itself, and wants to go left" That, will tell those guys a LOT, and they will know what to do, if you can give a really good description, of what it's doing.... Just a suggestion. Give it some thought. A proper alignment, can tell you, centerline, wheels vs centerline, toe, camber, all that stuff... Not that you aren't trying hard, but, there's no way to measure some of this stuff reliably, without the fancy machine.... Just saying... Anyways, great to see you, I hope you are doing well Sir.

Hi Patrick, nice to hear from you too. Yes, still alive but work is at its peek right now. So very little time for the garage :( I agree 100% that it should go on a machine, and I must do that at some point. Just haven’t got round to it. I even have a pretty good alignment shop near me who does the BMW. As you say it’s around 100 dollars. There is also some play in the steering box which I need to eliminate, I can literally turn the wheel a few inches left and right without making anything move at all. Another job there, and probably another video. 😀 Keep safe and speak soon. Will hopefully get another 911 video up before Christmas. But not sure if you are following that project. Regards Joël

@@My911 I am doing great Sir. I'm not quite sure what's happened... I'm still subscribed to you, with notifications... But I somehow haven't got any notifications. So I saw your reply, and then got curious, and bounced to your KZbin page, and I see I have missed a bunch of videos... so I need to correct that.... Heh heh heh! Sorry about that. It could have been me too I guess, I've been a little busy... I retired, I moved, I've been helping out my Dad with some stuff, I was helping a friend of mine get his boat running... Seems like I've been busy.... But, that's kinda part of what I was looking forward to in retirement, to work on what I wanted to work on, on my own terms.... So it's been fun. I don't wanna write a whole book here in your comment section... So let me catch up, see what you're up to.... I'm sure you recall, I watched like 72 of your Land Rover videos in 2 days... heh heh heh! You probably think I'm nuts. Heh heh heh! Maybe I am. I thought they were great. What a project. To be honest, that video series, should be required viewing, for anyone who thinks they want to do a project car or truck.... You should go into it, with your eyes open. Life gets in the way! It does. Even when you're a retired guy in Florida, life gets in the way... Doctor's appointments, eye doctors, air conditioning repair guys, meetings with the guy who is going to replace your outdoor screens.... To say nothing of hanging out by the pool with your friends.... Or, when you're in paradise, people want to come visit you, so then you gotta put the project on hold, clean up your house, pull it together, look civilized, when they get here... As a single guy, sometimes some of these things kinda fall by the wayside, when you're in the middle of something... I don't have a wife or girlfriend yelling at me all day, to clean that up, pick that up, put that away, blah blah blah..... Anyways, I'll try and find your email or something in your video description, and catch up. Great to hear from you Sir. I hope you're doing great. I wish you nothing but the best. It's Super Bowl Sunday here, which is the American Football Championship Game. I know, the rest of the world watches Soccer. I love my Football Joel. So, I'll be a little busy, I'm going to a Super Bowl party a little later... Talk to you soon.

Hey, great video - thanks! That will be helpful down the line. I'm just underway with a SIII 88 restoration. Just curious what size tyres you're running and if they're on original rims? Cheers
@My911
@My911 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, great to hear from you. My tyres are 235 x 85 x R16 on Original Land Rover Wolf rims. The hub studs are slightly short for the rims but still work. Check out Steamwally. He has the same rims as me and swapped out his studs for longer ones. I should do this too really. Good luck with your restoration. Regards Joël

@@My911 Hi Joël, thanks for the reply. The wheels look good! I actually have 109 rims that came with the car, they're a bit wider than the original 88 rims, so I guess I'll also try 235 s or a touch wider? Look forward to the next video 👍

I also changed to the Wolf rims as they have the lip on the inner rim which bears the new style tyres. The older rims don’t have this. I also have a set of the older 109 rims and didn’t use them for this reason.
