Great job as always. Just 2 things I noticed; 1 get the block professionally cleaned and while at the machine shop 2 get the top side of the block skimmed there too. Question: how is the balance of the rotating assembly, within spec?
@Vera_and_Christian
@Vera_and_Christian Жыл бұрын
Rods, crank and pistons are in spec and crank is oem = balance in spec. Skimming the block will scrap it as there is no fitting gasket available. Many folks found this out the hard way. Christian

@@Vera_and_Christian No alternative gaskets? that is bad :( Anyways, hope for the best I guess (heads and block are parallel to be gastight) Oh while the frame is easy to reach; few bottles of waxoil prayed on inside of frame tubes? Adds years of life to it :)

Why do you put atf on the back of the bearings? When I was at college in the 90s i was always taught they should be spotlessly clean and free of oil because the oil film will alter the clearances
@paulaus

You don't want the bearing to be moving against the block at all so no lube on the back of the bearing would make more sense.
@warwickbunn1250
@warwickbunn1250 Жыл бұрын
Yes that's an interesting point. If the bearings are torqued down correctly then they can't move. So I wonder if some lubricant before fitting would allow them to 'settle' into position better than a dry slide into place. 🤔

@@Vera_and_Christian Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! Is the 2.7d reliable in the Jag because it's a lighter/less "abused" car? I'm still very concerned about a metalic rattling that becomes particularly loud when the engine is hot. Maybe it's nothing serious, maybe it is... Taking it to and indie Jag garage tomorrow to have then inspect it. I see Proxxon is very expensive... I will first bench-test the one I bought to see how far from spec it is before sepending that kind of money... A short block is the name for the lower end of the engine without cylinder heads. So block, crank and piston with rods. Not to be confused with the US term "small block" and "big block". US people call their engines big and a small V8 if both are available for a car. Christian
