Very good video, Mr. Well explained and clear non-shaky camera work. Like they all should be! I'm about to do my Triumph GT6 wheel bearings which need a similarly tight end float, so this tutorial is spot on.

I have been learning from your tutorials for a year or so now and have gained so much knowledge. Thank you very much. 👍

Another great video. It's great to see proper mechanics at work. Some people might see this as old school but I see it as being done properly and understanding how things work with the correct tool; far too many mechanics are just fitters these days. On a side note, it's great to see the videos evolve and progress, there could be a whole new job for you there Chris!

hello nice video but what about to do when you have the wheel bearing spacer, how would you measure it?

Do you think the difference between end float on disco 1 and 300 defender is to do with the weigh difference? As I think I understand it, they are pretty much same axels? I have 1986 90 with 1995 disco 1 running gear under it. Always unsure which Haynes manual to believe 😄

When I torque the locknut I loose all my end float. The Haynes manual says to use a large spanner to hold it steady but there no clearance with the lock washer. Any advice please 🙏 (1986 2.5na axle is a 20L)

The dial gauge should always be at 90 degree to the face it is set on as otherwise the reading will be inaccurate.

Great video! Just a few considerations and questions. Considering I am not a mechanic, so I cannot afford to buy all those excellent tools (I wish I could!), I am curious to know your opinion about tightening the nut using a snug tight procedure. I recently replaced the front right wheel bearing on a '2000 Def 110 Td5. Because it has a spacer and only one nut, I shouldn't be worried to check the preload because the spacer provide the "idiot proof" system to keep the correct preload, am I right? In another video you said that there are different spacers. Are you referring to the spacer between the wheel bearings or other spacers? or you are referring to the spacer for a Tdi model? If I do not replace the disc I don't need to buy a new spacer, right? For now it works fine, no sign of anything. I will soon have to replace the rear discs. In that case, is there a single spacer thickness? If not, how do I know the thickness? I guess the unswer is that I should buy all those tools. :( Moreover, the previous owner installed HD axle shaft. Does it change anything in the procedure from the original shaft? Thanks heaps! Davide

Hi, thank you for all you great videos! They are helping me a lot on the restauration of my Discovery 1. I would like to ask if you can send me the link of the Universal dial gauge stand on the Paddoks web site since I have trouble to find it! Thanks a lot! Greeting from Switzerland! Luca

Hello, Switzerland. I had a good look for it. Cannot find it. I hazard a guess that they no longer stock it. Can you message me through facebook?
