Agree regarding lag - it's not relevant on an old diesel with turbo. I have done similar to you with my 80 series 1HZ with mods done in stages over a 12 month period. Went GTurbo ( doesn't need water cooling so less friggin about, PDI front mount.Each mod made it just a bit better, Biggest single improvement for me was getting it tuned by an old dude in WA, ( i'm from Tassie) (but i drove over to see daughter)). This old due ( now retired) added virtually no extra fuel but he did time the injection pump, the difference was absolutely amazing. Hills that i previously had to drop back to third on, now i manage to get up in fifth. I have never seen my egt's above 420 unless towing.

Yeah nice! I had a gturbo on my old 80 series I think they’re great. Hearing your feedback makes me think I need to get a good tune in it asap. Thanks for the recommendation this is all learning to me so will do some research and lock a tune in 👌

@@onstreetgarage I hope you are lucky enough to find an 'old guy' that knows the 1HZ and not someone who just adds fuel according to AFR. Can't remember the torque but I went from 74 -> 123 hp when in 2wd.

@michaelsullivan5641 yeah I’ll be doing my research I have a fair idea of the right questions to ask. That’s huge gains I wish I had the old WA bloke around me haha

@michaelsullivan5641 Hey mate all the way from WA, recently got a 105 and having some cooling troubles potentially related to tuning, any chance you have the details of the bloke that helped time your 80 series? Cheers

, the guy I used was the owner of Rhodeside in Willeton. He has recently retired and handed the business over to his son. I have heard, (unconfirmed), that the son isn’t as good on the old mechanical pumps. So, long story short, nah I am unwilling to recommend.

Great info. Though I do wonder how much of this improvement is due to the new injectors, that can def lower EGTs. Thx for doing this recording n testing for us, super helpful, I did not expect such a big difference between top mount and a front mount when running down the road

Injectors were definitely a help however I noted the higher and faster ramping of boost seems to coincide with lower egts across the board. In an ideal world I would’ve done injectors first and tested in isolation however timing didn’t work out that way unfortunately. The injectors are 100% worthwhile. I am getting it tuned in a couple of weeks so keen to see how that affects things also. The front mount was a bit of a shock to me, very impressed with how much better it performs on sustained runs and I’m shocked at how it’s genuinely improved driveability overall, this turbo is much happier with a front mount

I’m impressed with how fast the EGT’s drop back! Slowly trying to get my EGT’s down and I’m running front mount series 2 HPD. Yet my EGT’s will climb fast and drop down at a steady speed yet just doesn’t feel that great, shitty turbo tho I reckon Good to see your progress
@onstreetgarage10 ай бұрын
Yep that and how slow EGT’s go up on long runs now where they use to just keep going. How old are your injectors? That seems to really help my egts as much s the new turbo did.

@@onstreetgarage egt goals 😂 my injectors were done probably 2,000kms before the turbo and I’ve done about 20,000km since I hate the turbo I’ve got on, comes on too late so looking into the green wheel and a tune at the same time! However shocks just went so new ones on order, one think after another
@onstreetgarage10 ай бұрын
@Shaanjc96 haha that’s the fun of running these older 4x4’s. As budget allows there’s always something on the list next. If your turbo is laggy and you have the budget for a gturbo you’ll be absolutely cheering. Glad I’m not the only one on the never ending journey 😂

Definitely think abit more boost would drop the egts more. I have a Hi flow ct26 on my 1hz running 17psi with no intercooler just the crossover pipe and i have never cracked 400
@onstreetgarage10 ай бұрын
Yeah I’m with you mate! Next step is a tune and turn the boost up a bit, figured I’d just wait until the tune rather than cowboy it at home as I can’t check all parameters myself

Thanks for the helpful video, is the exhaust 3 inch? Cheers
