Landfall On The Legendary Isla del Coco After 2 Months At Sea - Ep. 70 Thula Sailing

After 51 days across the Pacific against winds and currents we finally see... land! Land ho! 350 miles off the coast of Costa Rica. Low on food, water, diesel this island becomes our lucky strike.
An uninhabited ever-green island shaped by deep ravines, valleys, 200 waterfalls rising out of the depth of the Pacific belonging to part of a volcanic chain of submarine volcanoes stretching until the Galapagos islands.
A pirate island? Yes. A treasure island? Yes. Uninhabited? Yes and No.
National Park? - Yes, Costa Rica's most remote one with lots of endemic species!
We are surprised by huge creatures below us on anchor. And then by our first Ticos we ever met, fully armed! Communication problems, unexpected experiences & (natural) surprises - this episode is full of it! Enjoy

I travelled a lot when young, not by sea sadly, but I often found kindness would come from unexpected sources, goodness in greater quantities, more than ever I could imagine. Yes quite humbling to accept gifts freely given, you pay it back by doing good for others, when the boot is on the other foot. Truely a beautiful place to visit, where millons of us will never see, except thanks to your records. We'll done!

(Or Thula is) I've never been but I think I would love it based on a friend in London, originally from Kiel, who said that the land was so flat that you could stand on the ramparts of the schloss - on the berg in Kiel - and see who is coming for coffee tomorrow! Ich habe gerade Eure letzten beiden Episoden genossen, die unglaublich lange und schwierige Pazifikquerung und den 24Std. Stop auf einer für die meisten Menchen völlig unbekannten und unwirklich schönen Insel vor den Toren Mittelamerikas. Ihr beiden Kieler, mittlerweile gibt es eine Vielzahl von Kanälen auf KZbin, auf denen Segler um die Welt segeln und ihre Reiseerlebnisse mit vielen anderen Menschen teilen. Aber auf keinem Kanal wird einem als Zuschauer diese fremde Welt so schön, anschaulich und informativ näher gebracht,wie bei Euch. Der Mix aus Segeln und fremder Welt ist perfekt gestaltet. Großes Kino! Wenn ich es richtig mitbekommen habe, weilt Ihr aktuell noch auf den Azoreninsel Sao Jorge, bevor es dann sicherlich irgendwann auf die Schlußetappe gen Nord- und Ostsee gehen wird. Beide aktuell mit 21/22 Grad. Viel Freude weiterhin und danke nochmal für die tollen Videos. Grüße vom Blücher :D

Vielen lieben Dank für dieses unglaublich schöne Lob! Das ehrt uns sehr! Wir sind tatsächlich mittlerweile schon von São Jorge weiter nach Graciosa, einer schnuckeligen kleinen Azoren-Insel, wo jeder Tag gefühlt wie Sonntag abläuft. Wir liegen im Fischereihafen & freuen uns den Vulkankrater hier zu erkunden. Das wird aufregend! Denn man kann in die Höhle des Vulkanschlots hineingehen. Solltest du etwas über eine frei werdende Bleibe ab 1.9. um die 65-80qm bei dir im der Gegend oder etwas außerhalb hören, freuen wir uns sehr über Meldung! Wahnsinn, was gerade auf denn Kieler Wohnungsmarkt abgeht! 😆 Grüße aus Praia!

The diving around Manuelita are some of the best in the world. What you likely didn't realize is that there were literally 100's of hammerhead sharks swimming right underneath you, along with turtles, sailfish, tuna, manta and mobula rays... even whale sharks. Been twice... can't wait to go back again.

For sure a reason to return! It would have been so awesome so stick our heads underwater but in the first place we were just super happy about the generosity & hospitality we experienced there. The team told us lots about their dives there 🙂

Ist ja irre! Ihr wisst bessere Geschichten zu erzählen als Steven Spielberg und bringt das dann noch professionell auf die Leinwand. Danke dafür und das ihr es mit uns geteilt habt. Es ist "eure" Geschichte, sie gehört ganz alleine euch und die kann euch niemand mehr wegnehmen. Ihr müsst euch gefühlt haben wie "Bernard Moitessier" oder "Jacques-Yves Cousteau" vor 60 Jahren. Dabei war es damals bedeutend leichter zu solchen Inseln zu kommen. Ich bin begeistert, von euch als Seeleute und der für den Rest der Welt verborgenen Insel. Zum Weg dahin sagt man wohl am besten "--ist ja nochmals gut gegangen-" Immer eine handbreit Wasser unter dem Kiel Karl-Heinz
