I also have one (sn 621, built in 1967) that I purchased as a wreckage and restored in 1989. Painted AgCat Yellow, with red stripes. I get called Tweety Bird when in flight, and have had it up to 24,000 feet. I built a modified canopy for it, that is similar to the 'E' type and I glued a small post on the canopy a few inches up for the yaw string to attach to, so I dont have to use tape to hold it in place. Fly Well!

That is great! Ours SE-SWU, is from 1961, pretty much original everything except instrument panel. When I learned to fly back in the 1970:s we had another yellow Ka6cr, then SE-SZO. It had the original Schleicher trim mod kit which was sort of nice. The post idea for the string seems very good, not seen that before. Do You per chance have a link to a picture of Yours?

That was only short from perspective of the people who retrieved to. That was on the numbers and good practice for when there is less runway ahead.. Fine work.

I saw some critical comments about the yaw string . Actually his turns are Ok , he should move the yaw string further back on the canopy . It's current location is in an area which has turbulent airflow due to the design of the canopy . I had the same issue and moved the string back 6" and the wild swings went away .
@erikisberg38863 жыл бұрын
You are the only one commenting who figured this out... I think it is a good idea to move the string further up on the canopy, we may do that. Watched Your Ka6 videdo, looked real nice. The "nick" in the streamlining below the canopy creates turbulence and perhaps the air intake also creates some disturbance as well. Noticed a different design of the air intake in the front of the canopy on Your Ka6, is that an improvement?
@siliconebobsqpts3 жыл бұрын
@@erikisberg3886 When we got the Ka6 ( not CR ) the log book was missing so I'm not aware of any modifications . The turbulence is created by the transition from the nose to the canopy angle some air slips out the side parallel to the canopy frame , It drove me crazy the first flight .I moved it back into smoother airflow and problem solved . Wonderful design overall ,I've stayed up many a weak day when glass fell out of the sky .

@@siliconebobsqpts The reason I asked is that we are not really happy about the original ventilation. Ours is a piece of movable plastic in the front of the canopy. I have flown other Ka6cr:s over the past decades and they had the same similar design. If You fly in rainy conditions, ours act like a shower and if closed the canopy quickly fogs over. Yours looks different in the front of the canopy above the release handle. I agree on the pleasantness of flying this old bird in weak difficult thermals... going into a headwind is less fun though.

Thanks for the comment, hope clips like this are useful for some other pilots. I enjoy and learn from similar fpv ones myself. Have been flying this type for 45 years now... still learning...

You should take more attention to the yaw string. It is pretty dangerous what you do in all your landings. You use to much inner rudder. Please be careful.

How much does this plane cost?

There was a lot of skidding turns as seen from your yaw string. I’ve never flown a Ka-6 (I intend to one day) but if it flys like most other sailplanes, the yaw should be easily controllable to keep that string entered. Be careful!
@erikisberg38863 жыл бұрын
You should fly one if You get the chance, I have flown the type since the 1970:s and I still enjoy it. Its great in tight and difficult thermals and You feel the thermals much better than in composite. The yaw is skittish compared to modern gliders and the yaw string is very sensitive, sort of either or. I can assure You I am not anywhere near a stall spin in this landing, watched it again and the ball is mostly pretty well centered. That said, it spins and there has been some fatal accidents on early rope breaks. So it is much less forgiving than K21 or similar.

@@erikisberg3886 Thank you for your reply, I'll definitely look for an opportunity to fly one. Actually, the Ka6 is on my short list of sailplanes I would like to own. I know its just a simulation, but Condor 2 seems to do a good job in replicating the flight and soaring characteristics of the sailplanes I have flown. Wishing you safe flying!

Great glider the K6 cr and e. Did a 300 out and return in England in 1982. Very forgiving in all areas. Yes , the yaw string would be better further up the canopy as you get false readings otherwise.

I agree, it is great fun to fly especially in weak conditions. The Ka6cr was my first single seat glider in the mid 1970:s. It was not even completely obsolete then...I know about the yaw string placement issue, we should move it. I usually fly this glider much by feel, not looking so much at the instruments. Did spin it back in the 1970:s, found it rather benign. Ours is a 1961 cr model.

@@erikisberg3886 it’s a glider you strap on and fly by feel. My K6 was an earlier BR which had a wheel conversion I believe.

Hi, actually the Cr2 was my first single seater as well, back in 1974... In later years most of my flying has been aerobatics however, different but fun as well.
