Seletar is one of our more challenging destinations. It is bounded in very close proximety on 3 sides by restricted/noise sensitive areas and to the north by a waterway that is frequented by ships with high masts
Both runways have no instrument approaches which, in itself isn't so much of an issue, in a tropical, hot and wet environment can be particularly challenging with tropic rainfall making visual approaches difficult
Our approach today has us being radar vectored over Malaysia basically until crossing the water on final. I find the scenery very picturesque. Just before our arrival the ATIS was showing wet runway with good braking action. The runway is about 6,500 feet, which is plenty for us to land, but I chose to fly a little lower than normal on approach to take advantage of as much of the runway as I could

Not only a beautiful landing, but looked like it was hand-flown down the entire ILS. Great to see those skills!

Thanks Dave for the comment Unfortunately Seletar Airport in Singapore has an ILS to Runway 21, however it extends into Malaysia airspace. Due to political issues, the ILS has never been activated so Seletar only has visual approaches available Makes things really fun flying into a tropical destination with seasonal heavy rains 😂

Thank you! Credit, as always, must go to the aircraft designers. The landing gear design makes our life a lot easier when it comes to smooth landings Thanks for the comment

Thank you so much so cool i love aviation from usa that was a very good landing and shows no matter how big the airplane you still have to work for it.I really like when you dont edit these fine films so that you feel like your along for the ride lol.For you to pilot the 650 and the global 6000 you have proven yourself and have many interesting stories to tell please do.

@ Nathan Elcoate I think we had about 10kts crosswind from the right but it was a bit bumpy. Sometimes we appear to over control but that’s due to the sensitivity of the HUD guidance In saying that, the Gulfstream is a very forgiving aircraft on touchdown 😊

Was it really that windy approaching? I’m an aerospace engineer for 33 years but don’t fly, can’t fly, barely can drive really lol, but i am just curious.

@JUSTENization thanks for the question It wasn’t too gusty on this day. I am making many small corrections with the yoke due to the sensitivity of the Flight Director displayed in the HUD. The HUD is an amazing tool and greatly helps with precision flying What kind of Aerospace Engineering are you involved in?

@@Skylineschannel thanks. Love that 650. Am mostly work on engine build up design layout (EBU), engines plumbing more or less, last project was C-Series, okay A220 lol, then Falcon 10x, proudly did re-engining C-5M and JSTARS out of Collins Aerospace in San Diego (former Rohr Industries). During mid 1990s i was at Bell for the wingbox design, then headed up to Wichita for the 777x original, 737NG, mostly control surfaces design and empennage and tailskid…. I could have learned to fly while in Wichita.

That’s Brilliant!! Flew the Global 6000 before coming back onto the 650 so some aspects of the C-Series were very familiar (she’ll always be the C-Series to me!) Sounds like you have a very interesting career across a lot of different airframes. Hope you have been able to share the lessons you’ve learnt over your years with the next generation

Im wondering how it is legal to fly that low. I mean, 25+/- ft overhead the threshold? U must have had 4 red at 100ft..?
@Skylineschannel
@Skylineschannel Жыл бұрын
@TheNakedGranny your comments are valid. Our situation was the ATIS was indicating a wet runway so given Seletar”s relatively short runway, when clear of obstacles on the visual approach, I chose to fly a little lower to get a slightly earlier touchdown to give us more time for braking. As it turns out the runway at touchdown time wasn’t wet so we had plenty of runway available Interesting thing about the PAPI, I’ve had it in the past flying airlines where we would land with 4 reds. The VASI was setup for the B747 so our cockpit height was significantly lower, thus when close in it gave erroneous indications. The issue was addressed NOTAM and in company manuals Thanks for the comment. I was waiting for someone to mention it and, after quite a few views, you’re the first 👍

@@Skylineschannel perfect landing based on your decision of aim your touchdown a little bit early due to contaminated runway relatively short for this type.
@Skylineschannel
@Skylineschannel Жыл бұрын
@Yilma Varela thanks for the comment The runway is quite restrictive for us, particularly when the runway is wet for takeoff. The landing performance numbers still said we had enough runway length available for landing, even using wet runway data so @TheNakedGranny had a valid point Thanks again for the comment and support
