"I don't think we're gonna make it into the gate" *starts APU*
@DiamondAviation7276 жыл бұрын
He did that so when the engines fail he would still have power, he knew he wasn't going to make it to the gate.
@multicrew31526 жыл бұрын
All the power he'd get from the APU running on all that fuel he'd have...yep, nice

DiamondAviation but the APU uses fuel. So he used extra fuel for no good reason

What I never understand, why does he put gear down and flap full at 4000ft with fuel critical? He's done the same when he flew the Q400 dry. If I'm low on fuel I'll try to stay clean as long as humanly possible

Why did he reversed the engine trust and start the apu instead of minimal reverse and GPU power? Then he loses even more fuel in a shorter amount of time, and he could make it to the gate...
@Edvinas_channel7 жыл бұрын
Well you have to turn off your engines first before connecting GPU so you do need your APU to maintain constant power between engine shutdown and GPU connection
@MauritsVeen7 жыл бұрын
Edvinas ah thanks :)

Edvinas or he could have shut down 2 engines on one side and then approach aircraft from side the engines are off if that’s possible

He was probably cleared to land, unlike the UK, the US can clear more than 1 aircraft to land at a time

Neume didnt know about that. Nice
@TurboFly076 жыл бұрын
Also, one of the first things they teach you in ground school is that the controller is not flying the aircraft, you should know best for what is safe to do in your aircraft and you take on that responsibility. His fuel was at a critical state, he should have landed, it would have been a safer option then to risk running out of fuel prior to landing. He made two important mistakes here: 1. He did not communicate, rather he simply barked back the orders he was given. He should have notified the air traffic controller of his fuel status prematurely or by declaring an emergency and effectively clearing himself to land if the controller refused to do so, which you can do in emergency situations; 2. He was not assertive enough as PIC and allowed the controller to fly the airplane for him.
