As kids, we would ride the train into center city for the Christmas lights at Wanamaker’s, the Dickens Christmas Village, and the tram ride around Lit Bothers. We loved eating lunch at the Crystal tea room especially the little tea sandwiches with the vegetable soup.

You brought back a lot of good memories. We would go every Christmas to see the Wanamaker‘s lights and Strawbridge’s Village. When I got older we would go down to McGillis ever Friday night. Lots of good memories.

They won't leave it up because of the leftist government in our city. I am also from Philly. Born and raised here for 57 years South Philly. Yo, bro you passed by good ole litt brothers across from the old strawbridges at 8th. And Market sts. That was where the original enchanted village was.

Yes, ole Mayor Dilworth kicked it off in 1952. The beginning of the decline in Philly. Hasn't been a Republican mayor ever since he took over. Sad indeed. Lol!!!

Dam I noticed that your at the liberty bell area. I was born and raised in Philly and use to work down the street from their at 7th and Ranstead sts at Professional Color Processing labs inc. at the Charles P Mills building. The name should still be their at the top door entrance. I would love if you could do a documentary on that building and the history. It not well known and I'd be curious as to what you could find on it. And chance you could go inside and down in the basement would be great? The lab was down there. I worked their from 1977 till 1986.

The horse and buggy carriage company 76 was in fact closed down due to animal cruelty. My friend use to drive for them and they had the stable at Spring Garden and 12th near Gaudenzia and when they investigated it they were VERY quick to say nope not anymore. That was like 4 years ago the shut that down.

👍🏼 John/Philly captain : Question ? Letting U know I just recently hooked up with your channel ! The wife & I enjoy it, one your hilarious ! But U really shock us on how knowledgeable you are of Philadelphia ! Pretty Dang cool. any way the Question is I C U show the old John Wanamaker's building on Market and talk about the movie major the mannequin, just curious why you haven't brought up about the movie blowout John Travolta , he crashed his Jeep right through that main window on Market Street ! It also starred old uncle miltie from Kensington he owned a men's clothing store on Kensington Ave he played a mafia Hitman in the movie as well as the murder scene down there at Penn's Landing John Lithgow what's the murderer. No biggie just was wondering thanks Joe !! Happy Healthy New Year 2 U & your family 🌴🌴👍🏼

I work at the Strawbridge building, the Heirloom opening and closing was a blink of an eye, lol. Sad for me since this was my lunch spot, now I have to go further out for lunch, oh well.
@mikeleone134718 күн бұрын
Well, it was open for 3 years, but compared to how long Strawbridge's itself was open, that's a blink ... It closed the day before this video, on Dec 28th, I believe. The new full size Giant at Broad and Washington is open, tho, I was there yesterday.

When I was young December 6th was considered the end of Christmas season and called Little Christmas. I was told that it was called that because that was when the three wise men found the Christ child and presented their presents. Since Christmas now is so commercial most people say New Year’s Day is now the end of Christmas season.
