Relic finishes on guitars is like buying jeans with rips and tatters. Some folks will hate it, some folks will love it. Personally I think it depends on the amount of distressing done from the factory. It can be great, but it can also quickly go too far.
@damienalvarez295729 күн бұрын
Some look at it the way you do, others look at it like buying $1000 new shoes that look like they’ve been dragged through years of dirt, concrete & asphalt. I personally can’t justify paying the markups that relic guitar prices have, but I happily concede that having a relic’d guitar makes it easier to avoid a panic attack if you scrape, scuff, or smack your guitar against something, since it will already look beaten up, anyway.
@SB-ht6kf29 күн бұрын
There's more to it though. A good relic'd guitar will feel like a played in instrument, without all the maintenance issues. If you've ever bought an excellent vintage instrument you'll know. Many need fretwork, but to a pro they just feel like home. Gibson or Fender custom shop give that experience...EVH (Fender) does an excellent job on the frankie models...without needing to visit a luthier to fix some old wear issues, or doing it yourself. Cheaper guitars relic's for looks is just a gimmick for posers ;)

(Comment started while watching for 1st time). Favorites: Clean tone, toss up between B and C. Dirty tone, Guitar C was my favorite, Guitar E 2nd favorite. That makes guitar C the winner for me. I'll be interested to see which one it is! American Pro II takes it! I guess I'll have to try and pick up a used one...lol.

Thanks for your videos! Been a strat guy for YEARS, until I found a tele i liked and then became a tele guy overnight. Never liked them before, now it's all I play. My main guitar lately has been a early 2000's made in Mexico tele, i bought it used because it had hot rails pickups in it. I sanded the neck and play it through a Peavey 5150 amp - it sounds amazing and I don't think I'll ever go back to strats. And it's blue.

I'm 72 years old and I started guitar in 1961 when I was 9. I've owned many guitars over the years. My favorite guitar now is my Fender Custom Shop Strat that I bought just over 18 years ago. About a year ago I bought a Squire Tele. I settled for the Squire because I'm on a fixed income. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the guitar. I'd recommend it to someone who's moving up from their beginner guitar. Also, I bought it and two other guitars plus two amps from Sweetwater.

As I've mentioned in many comments to you, I'm a bass player, but I've always guitars and have two in my collection ( Strat, SG ) the Telecaster has long been my favorite because of its tonal character that covers such a wide range of styles and genres. The Tele you buy new today is virtually unchanged from the one you might have purchased in 1952. I think that is quite extrodinary. Congrats on hitting the 100K mark in subscriptions. You've earned it with a really informative and entertaining site. Keep having fun!

Great video, Landon! Thanks. I have an Ultra. Seems perfect to me. The tones of the different Tele's are so close that, for me, I need to see, feel, play without an amp to know if it's for me. With the Tele pickups and using the Tone Master Pro, I can pretty much get any tone exactly how I want it from virtually any guitar. I love your videos.
@_Yep_Yep_27 күн бұрын
I figured the Squier was A based on the separation of pup tone to itself if that makes sense and that c & d were the modern flagships. D/E bass really seemed apart from the rest. I like D the best, but they all rang true and sounded pretty good.

I have a Squier Affinity and it is UNBELIEVABLE. It arrived with some paint damage in two spots, and the dealer ended up refunding all but $70 or $80. The feel and neck were too good for me to send it back. It feels and sounds almost as good as my Fender tele. I tried to match the paint and it was so close, but I ended up unintentionally going with a sort of relic look. But for $80 and a couple hours of work, it's a machine and sounds great.

Well, one thing's for sure, they all sound like a Tele. I did like the musicality of the V-Mod IIs in the Pro II in the blind test so definitely worth the Sweetwater entry. But it's very hard for me to understand why Fender doesn't put split shaft tuners on all guitars that don't have lockers.
@adammcbride412827 күн бұрын
My guesses were B D C E A, most preferred to the left, going by one listen pass on the dirty tones, so that player 2 was the surprise lol I think after 3 tones though it was hard to keep in working memory 😅
@mike4235629 күн бұрын
Before seeing the results (probably wrong 😅): - A and B are likely the American, tyoical alder + mapple fingerboard. - C and E sound darker, I suspect it's the rosewood fingerboard: Player and Custom Shop. - D is scooped, loads of bass but also treble, it may be the Squier CV.

I had the Squire classic vibe but ended up selling it. My two issues is that the tuning stability was bad due to the tuning keys being junk and the neck/fretboard was so heavily lacquered that I could not get over it.This was the last Squire I will ever buy. It pays to spend a little more to get out of the cheap range.

A great thing about electric guitar is that the sound doesn't come down to something intrinsic like acoustics. I saw someone demonstrate that the body does nothing. He made a guitar that consisted of strings stretched between two car motors on a bench with pickups. Played it like a slide guitar. Sounded fine. You can upgrade the pickups. You can upgrade the electronics. There's no reason you couldn't start with a squier and make it sound like anything. I admit I loved the sound of the custom though >.>
