"Chats with Guitar Cats" Episode #1
I surprise studio legend Louie Shelton as we recall his younger years by pulling out a guitar like the one that started it all for him as Little Junior Shelton back in Little Rock Arkansas - a genuine vintage 1952 Fender Telecaster.
Like, subscribe and leave a comment if you would like Louie to do a KZbin Live Chit Chat with me so you can ask him questions in the live chat room.

Man I just love it when I stumble across a gem like this on youtube. I was one of the millions of teens that started playing electric guitars in the mid 60's, inspired by guitar playing like Mr. Shelton's on so many songs of that era. It's a gift he gave me and I still enjoy to this day very much. Especially now, when we are under stay-at-home orders. If it weren't for guitar playing I'd probably go nuts. Sincere gratitude to you Mr. Shelton. You did a really good job with this Rick, especially considering it was the first interview you did and an impromptu get-together. I was spellbound the entire video. Thanks to you as well, take care. I'll be watching for the next time you get together with Mr. Shelton.

The value of that '52 instantly increased. Louis is such a great player, gentleman, and interviewee. I always enjoy seeing and seeing him. I have a 1952 Tele. The newer ones - even late 50s, don't compare. There's one reason why they are SO valuable. They are not so thin and spiky, although they are still like a Tele. They have wooden warmth, kind of a sweetness - as you can hear here. They tend to be lighter (not much paint or lacquer at all) and easier to play than many later ones.

My father's family was from Nashville. We used to visit there when I was a kid and no trip was complete without a matinee at the Grand'Ole Opry. I grew up a Rock era guy and then became a jazz buff. But there is nothing like hearing some good old country pickin' played by a man who walked the red clay. Little Junior Shelton sure came a long way from Arkansas, but he still has it in his fingers and his soul.

Some gave this a thumbs down? THUMBS DOWN? The reason is jealousy. Pure & simple jealousy. Unreal talent & humility=Mr Shelton. Calm, cool attitude reminds me of Keith Richards!! I wish I could meet Mr Shelton to say thank you for all he's done for the world of music, and for guitar & guitarists!! Thank you, Mr Shelton from Norman H in Montreal, Canada. Please come up here!! Maybe for the Jazz Fest? We can't wait to see/hear you!!

There was no "wrecking crew" until 1983. That's when Hal made up the name for his book. Their name was "The Clique" throughout the 60s and early 70s. He changed the name because of the other drummers that actually worked more than Hal like Earl Palmer......and on and on.

My first Louie moment was the fierce Spanish flavored soloing on the Monkees' "Valleri". Not a huge fan of the song itself, but that guitar work was jaw-dropping. Nobody was doing that for late 60s pop-rock.

Enjoy the view Louie you've earned it

Wow! I'm from Pine Bluff, Arkansas! Born and raised there, from 1971 - 2003 and have been living abroad ever since. Does Mr. Shelton remember the name of the music store where he got his '52 Tele? It probably didn't exist anymore when I was growing up, but there was a music store on Main Street called Wallick Music that was in business for more than 70 years. I wonder if that was it?
