Landrover Freelander 3 door,how to remove the roof rails and hardtop for some summer driving,this is part one,part two is putting on the rain cover and part three will be putting the soft top on,please like and subscribe for more videos on this channel,thank you

Used to just leave the roof rails in place. Yes, it's more of a PITA trying to get the hard top off sideways with 2 people, but only a about 15 seconds slower than doing it with the roof rails removed. However, I soon discarded the roof rails once I'd had the full internal roll cage fitted. I absolutely loved my 3 door Freelanders, all except the first, a 1.8 poverty spec with no hdc/traction control. I'd have the soft top fitted in the summer -looked really cool when open topped, with those Cobra bucket seats and that roll cage !. Until the zips for the windows broke ! I used that rain cover once - what a fiddly , time consuming pile of junk that was. Much quicker using the soft top. At least it was in my experience.

Yes agree with you on that rain cover,only put it on the freelander once for filming,been in its bag since,soft top is brilliant,after a couple of times it only took a couple of minutes to either open it or close it,roll on Easter and the soft top be back on it again,yes its a bit tight taking the hardtop off with rails in place,I use to have a 3 door freelander 10 years ago,loved it and should have kept it but this one is brilliant and in great condition and the 4 x 4 has got us out the mud a few times while towing a caravan

@@HOMEHUBBY2 I can honestly say this was the worst accessory I have ever bought for any of my Land Rovers ! I bought my rain cover brand new. Those 3 pieces of framework were corroded (not much though) despite it all being factory sealed in a thick plastic bag. Like I say, I used it once. The boot got soaked as it took so long to put up - and by the time I did get it up, the rain had stopped anyway. I left it on for a couple of days, but the inside of the car was very dark with no tailgate or hard top windows. The buffeting noise was a PITA. The velcro detached from the plastic pieces rendering the whole thing absolutely useless as the tension on the elastic cord that goes around the spare wheel mount meant it pulled it over the rear corners leaving caps for the rain to get in!. The best part is, if you bought a new 3 door Freelander from Land Rover, it was either a hard top or soft top. Unless you paid extra for both options. So unless you already had a soft top option, you couldn't fit the rain cover anyway without sourcing the brackets. Not so much a problem these days as most factory soft tops have been retro-fitted with hard tops during their life, once the soft top wears out so the brackets just remain in place I had to source the brackets for my V6 ES hard top back in 2006 in order to fit a second hand soft top I bought . I then transferred them over to my Td4 when I sold the V6, as the Td4 was also a factory hard top. Which then begged the question. If you have soft top anyway, why buy the rain cover ? It ended up in the shed for 10 years before I sold it on for £40 on one of the Freelander forums. A terrible idea that for some reason, now the Freelander 1 has been out of production for 18 years, a lot of people seem to want ! On a side note, when you open the tailgate, there's no need to go in to the front to drop the window. There's a micro switch on the pillar that releases when the handles are pulled and the hard top is lifted at the back a couple of inches.The same micro switch operates the tailgate window when you fold the soft top away. But you probably already know that by now.

Can’t believe how much people pay for the rain cover,I got this free and unused,soft tops seem to sell for good prices now,luckily I didn’t pay much for my soft top(£100)as the person I got it from didn’t use it and was taking space up in their garage,so got a excellent deal,also got a very good roof glass bag too,the one that came with our freelander was knackered as it was laying in the fish pond lol,sorted that out to,6 mm drill bit and 2 holes,sorted,no fish pond now under the floor

@@HOMEHUBBY2 I was lucky enough in around early 2011, to buy 4 brand new soft tops from a Land Rover Franchise that were liquidating dead stock. They were £150 each. They had 7 originally, so I bought one, but by the time I decided it would be a good idea to buy all 7, 3 more had sold - all within 15 minutes ! So I bought the remaining 3 . I kept one, then in the spring sold 2 for £320 each and the last one I sold late summer for £280 !
