I love this song I was 19 when it was in the charts I am now 61 yrs old and still enjoy listening to it it's so strangely hypnotic and I go into a time warp listening to it and the memories come flooding back of those bloody fantastic times I dearly wish I could turn back the clock and go back to those happy and wonderful days

I'm 53 and remember this song like yesterday - along with Norman Bates on TOTP with the guy going crazy on the piano. At the time I had no idea they were pretty accomplished jazz/session musicians with a penchant for electronics - you had to be able to play and serve the song back then no matter how deceptively simple!

Omg me too!!! I have carried this tune in my head most of my life since it was used on a commercial when I was young, which featured Einstein, I think it was for a power/electric company or something. I never heard it again. After 30 years I found it!! 🙌🏻

They were primarily a funky jazz band in the late 70s and are brilliant musicians. I love their early material. They've just released a 5 CD boxset of their complete history with a 52 page booklet and 22 previously unreleased tracks. Should get mine later this morning 😊👌

My band was using a Simmons kit when the "brain" got stolen from a gig. A couple of days later the thief tried to sell it in the music shop our guitarist worked in. We got it back! Yay! It was worth nearly a grand, thirty years ago, a heck of a lot of money for us lot

I was 8 when this came out in 1981 (50 now!) and it’s still great- weird but great- and this is the first time I have ever seen the group. Now, they ARE weird and I now know why we couldn’t get any plastic bin bags in 1981, as they seem to be wearing them!!

The originality of this and the weirdness of "Norman Bates" are the two things that really stick in my head about Landscape, although all the tracks on 'From the Tearooms of Mars...' are worth a listen. Nicely composed, performed, and very eclectic. :-)

I’m fairly sure they did this on TOTP, playing large constructed fictional instruments, and as a result one of the music papers of the day took the piss out of them saying that they’re the only band to go on TOTP and play their instrument cases.

@@DestinationSalad "playing large constructed fictional instruments"...no, actually, the simmons pads were real instruments and went on to be used by many great drummers, Bill Bruford among them.
