Great short video Steve. I really like the first shot. It's that moonlight effect you get with Infrared in the winter.

Those IR shots in gray winter light came out better then I would expect. Nice work and keep snapping!
@SteveONions7 жыл бұрын
I like to shoot IR in Winter as it can lift an otherwise drab scene and if you don't give it too much exposure you can cut down on the glowing foliage.

Nothing matches the old Kodak HIE Clive, if I could chose one film for them to bring back it would be that one.

I have a F80 but the clip that keeps the backdoor in place broke. Damn! Another super video Steve. Can't wait for your next vlog.

May as well buy another F80, probably cheaper than the clip 🙂

It really needed something to lift it from the ordinary and I think infrared does that - just!

Great shots, it goes to prove that you don’t need bright sunshine to shoot infrared

I’m often surprised how much IR light is around in Winter Cameron.

Hi Steve, do you have experience with Ilford SFX 200 and what is you findings? Very nice pictures.
@SteveONions4 жыл бұрын
Hi Leendert. I’ve used it in the past but I find it quite coarse and not as convincing as Rollei IR400. I’d use it if nothing else were available but not for now.

Please let me know what film do you use and how you develop it Thanks Congratulations from Argentina
@SteveONions3 жыл бұрын
In this video the film was Rollei infrared 400 and I usually develop it in Rodinal 1:50 for 12 minutes.

I really liked the IR pictures this week. Is developing IR film much different from B/W?
@SteveONions7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Development is identical and you can choose any of your favourite chemicals, here I went for Xtol diluted 1:1 to give a smooth look with very little grain.
@restless38256 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve. I too have a Nikon F80 and would love to shoot infrared B&W. However, I’ve read (and been told) that the F80 uses an IR beam to check the frame no. of the film, which may cause IR film to fog? Have I been misled? If not, how did you avoid fogging your film? Wonderfully inspiring vlogs Steve! I’m working my way through all of them. You deserve more subs than you currently have! Thank you!!
@SteveONions6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mo. I too had been lead to believe the F80 would fog infrared film but I am glad to report that it does not. It may have done so on the old Kodak HIE bit with Rollei IR I can detect no sign of it at all.

I'm getting more and more interested in film again. I use to shoot black and white film a lot and did my own processing and I'm considering getting back into it. I'd like to get a medium format camera similar to the Bronica you often used. I asked about how you switch back and forth and you said you have different backs and can easily switch. Is that roll film or some sort of sheet film? My other question is how you get the film images converted to digital. Do you have a service scan and convert them or do you do that? Do you find you lose quality when converting them? Thanks again. I really enjoy the videos.
@SteveONions7 жыл бұрын
Hi Philip. My Bronica is a medium format (120) roll film camera, so 12 shots per roll which is usually more than enough for a location. I scan my own images using mainly an Epson v700 which can handle anything from 35mm to 4x5. As to whether I lose quality the answer is definitely yes with 35mm being the most affected and 4x5 holding up very well indeed. If absolute quality is necessary then a professional drum scan is the way to go followed closely by the Hasselblad Flextight, both of which deliver greater real resolution, better colours and greater dynamic range. You can also request you film developing company to scan the images when they process them which can save a lot of time and effort - home scanning is a pain but one I've got used to!

Hi Steve did you capture anything from this morning in the Kitchen ?? We met ya on the way down pal ??
@SteveONions7 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul. It was lovely up there wasn’t it, just a bit slippy with all that ice on the path. I only took 3 pictures in total as I was using the 4x5 but i am hopeful of the one taken from just below the kitchen as the clouds around the top of Pen Yr Ole Wen looked fantastic. Hope you had a lovely day out too, we will probably bump in to each other again at some point. 🙂

Hi Steve, Can you tell me what iso you used, I'll be using the Rollei infrared iso400 film
@SteveONions6 жыл бұрын
Hi Jane. When used with a 720nm filter I shoot at EI 6 and also take a second image at EI 3. I rarely meter however and typically use about 2 seconds @f/22.

Uważam, że moja konwersja canon G15 IR pozwala mi zaoszczędzić dużo kliszy - idealna do podglądu, aby sprawdzić, czy światło jest odpowiednie.
