Really enjoyed watching this. I too haven't been there for around 30 years. (Sept '92 to be exact). Pitched a tent in the campsite by the side of the Beck, just below Goredale Scar, but the banks broke during sudden heavy rain and I woke up lying in three inches of water. Spent the next day and night drying off in the Youth Hostel in Malham. On a technical note, I have never shot waterfalls at exposures below about a second, so am eager to try now, after watching your fantasic results. Luckily for me, there's a really nice waterfall near me, at the head of the Asahina Pass, above Yokohama on one side, and Kamakura, the medieval Shogun's capital on t'other. All the best!

Hi, thanks so much for watching, and it was great to meet you. I haven’t had a chance to check out your channel yet but I certainly will 😊👍🏻
@starman19696 жыл бұрын
@@DGriffGallery Thanks, please do when you get chance. I spoke with you about changing my channel to include general photography as well as the astro stuff & I've decided to combine the two because I don't have a whole lot of subscribers, so it won't be such a big deal if I lose some. I think I can grow the channel a bit better if I include a wider range of photography, but still put more emphasis on the astronomy side.

I love Malham we have walked there many many times over the years. However these days it is far more popular than it used to be, when we used to pay winter visits there we only used to see the locals and the sheep! That is a thing of the past now everyone has discovered the wonders of Malham ! I can understand why you tried to escape the crowd and it payed off. You captured some really nice images :D Thank you for sharing :D Teddy

Yes it was quite a shock to see the numbers of people there compared to when I used to lodge in the village. But I should have guessed because I've seen how my local patch has got much busier even in the last 5 - 10 years! 😃👍

Thanks so much Arthur - hopefully I can do a bit better than that for you! I use IG mostly as a lead in to hopefully introduce new people to my stuff. But I'm not a great fan of how small the images have to be. So I've just started adding all images which make the final cut of each vlog the to relevant vlog page on my main website. The Malham trip was the first one, so you'll find all images available to view in high res here: dgriff.gallery/069-landscape-photography-at-malham-airedale-yorkshire-in-winter/ and with a bit of digging you'll also find the ones from Saturday too - I'll be doing this for all future vlogs so even if an image doesn't get picked for the portfolio pages, viewers will still always be able to see them in much more detail. I'll be adding the page link to every video description going forward. Hope this is of interest, and thanks again for expressing an interest in taking a closer look 👍😃

Nice vlog David. I have to admit though I suffered the whole way through. I can imagine your frustration with trying to vie for a shot among the crowd. I'm a subscriber of Mali's as well :-) On a different note altogether, going on your endorsement of the optics of the Sigma 70-300, I checked for a good buy on a Sigma 70-300 F4-5.6 DG Macro, then bought it. $72USD all up. Looked a little (lot) too busy for me, being as inexperienced as I am I’d feel so out of my depth. Had a bad experience just sat in a cafe with a guy just looking down on me having basic kit. People seem to forget that we all have to start somewhere
@DGriffGallery6 жыл бұрын
That's outrageous Brian. All you need to capture great images is enthusiasm and whatever gear you can get together!. One thing that is always VERY noticeable about these meet-ups, is the sort of folks who come along never once mention gear. I have never heard a word said about equipment - but plenty about composition and light!! As far as gaining experience, these sorts of gatherings are a great way to gain some insights unless you prefer to have one to one tuition or self-teach. The main thing is you enjoy your photography and just do what works fro you and you alone! 😃👍
@bcegerton6 жыл бұрын
D Griff Gallery Thanks, I’m sure it’s me just being paranoid
@DGriffGallery6 жыл бұрын
Maybe not - there are some pretty snotty equipment fetishists out there - and, in my experience, they tend to be quite poor, in terms of both photographic skills and wealth!! My entire kit costs less than some single full frame lenses and still wins me many a competition! The main thing is you keep your chin up, ignore anyone who is even remotely negative about you and have fun learning and improving and just getting out and about taking lots of pictures! 👍😃

@@DGriffGallery I wouldn't mind, we were on holiday in Wales just sat in the garden of a cafe. Just happened to be some nice little birds so I was getting a few snaps, he just looked at my camera and pulled his face. My wife stopped me saying anything. I have had the total opposite too though when I've been out, photographers just saying hi or what am I looking to shoot, suppose the same with anything, you get all sorts.
