Of all the landscape Vblogers you are the one that never fails to teach me. I think each of the formats has merit with the portrait leading your eye to the green walls, the landscape is my least favorite as I don't see the composition going from side to side, and the square is my choice in that it balances the lovely water with the walls best and for me brings my eye into the image with the least effort. Excellent!

What a treat Andrew - a fabulous video on so many levels. The gorge shots were stunning. Thank you for the lens tip at the gorge since I hope to capture similar scenes this Fall here in New York (in the Adirondack Mountains). I preferred the landscape shot. Hi Andrew. I love the personal family connection with Scotland you shared in this one. Great story. I really can't decide b/t the 3 formats from the gorge. The portrait really shows the height of the walls whereas the other two emphasize more of the beautiful green on the walls. I think I prefer 1:1 over the landscape, but you can't go wrong with any of the three. All would depend on the dimensions of the space in which you wanted to hang your print! I love this UK trip and am quite jealous of your adventures. Someday...
@Andrew_marr7 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, so glad you enjoy this one. Your right, all three crops showcase the scene is different ways. I like that about some images. Fantastic video Andrew! Visited scottland last year too and your video brings back a lot of good memories. I like the landscape version the most, because the river takes less space in the image and that makes it (the river) more special and it stands out against the green walls :) In comparison to the square format, where its kinda balanced. The portrait is also exciting to watch but a bit to thinn for my taste and i would love to see more of the surrounding green rocks at the sides of the river. Thanks for the beautiful video, looking foreward to your next one!

A lovely (and emotional) video, Andrew. I'm planning to visit Glencoe in the autumn, then on to the Isle of Skye; this video is further inspiration for me. Your shots go to show that you don't have to photograph at sunrise and sunset; that landscape is spectacular - those mountains punch way above their weight. With regards to your Finnich Glen shots, they're all beautiful but I particularly like the narrow portrait.

Andrew, finding your channel following your collaboration with Adam from First Man Photography has been great. Having now caught up on all your videos, it was quite fitting the last one to catch was from your recent visit to my country. Staying about 30 minutes from Glasgow on the west coast of Scotland, you have made me realise just how many opportunities await to get out there to learn and more importantly enjoy the experience. I have coastline, forests, open country side and urban areas, all of which you have featured in your vlogs and have given me plenty to consider for getting out there. Having a demanding job, it can be too easy to let these opportunities slip by, but you and a few other channels that I have been following have made me realise the importance of getting out there, giving it a go and develop myself in something completely different. Thank you for sharing the stunning images, sharing the practical tips and sharing the enjoyment you get out of your trips. Looking forward to more or your vlogs in the future and who knows maybe see you back in Scotland one day
@Andrew_marr7 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your comments and also your commitment to sit down and watch all the old videos. I have a special connection with Scotland and my visit there, although it was brief, was special and I really enjoyed the experience. I haven't had the opportunity to share this on through the videos yet, I also have a full time job outside of the vlogs and landscape photography I do here on KZbin. Photography is a wonderful break and change of pace from my other work. I believe it is very important to have something completely different as it helps in so many ways. So I can't encourage you enough to pursue this interest and see where it takes you...particularly if you live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world! :)

Beautiful video of a stunning country. I love Glasgow as a city, it has a fantastic vibe and great architecture but once you get to Loch Lomond you start entering a completely different world. I always say I don't like the Hasselblad 6x6 image and I'd rather have a Mamiya RZ67 than a 503 but I actually preferred your square image. I'm really pleased that you saw Scotland and how special a place it is even without your family connection and I'm also glad you saw how beautiful and powerful it can be in the rain. Rain and is very much part of, and shaped the country geographically as well as partially shaping the amazing people I've always met up there. We go at least once a year but it's easier to get there from Lancashire than Australia. I have no idea what the 3 dislikes expect from a video, but this is one of the best videos from one of the best photography video makers on KZbin. Brilliant images, and I enjoyed every second of it, very well done indeed. (Psst You do know they don't understand cricket in Scotland...don't you?)

Thanks so much Mark, I glad you enjoyed this as I know it's not far from you. even though I didn't spend much time in Glasgow, what I did see was wonderful, I loved the buildings and architecture. I liked our the square crop had a nice balance about it. Scotland was amazing. What you say about weather shaping the country is interesting, as I thing the same goes for some place back in Australia, at the other end of the spectrum. I seldom fail to get a thumbs down on my videos, I suppose everyone entitle to their opinion but I'd love to get feedback what why they did so. You comments are always full of positive feedback and support and of that I aim very grateful mate. Haha, and you're right the the Scotts didn't understand a word I said! :)

Likewise my grandfather emigrated from Loch Fyne area to NZ about the same time as yours. Had my first visit to Glencoe last Sept. And was blown away by its grandeur. Liked your landscape shots, captured the grandeur the best IMO.

Thanks very much Alistar for your kind comments and sharing your story, I can't believe your stories are so similar. I was so impressed with the landscape Scotland had to offer!

Great video , i appreciate you sharing the camera settings,it helps improve my photography skills. I thought the portrait setting conveyed the canyons true physical aspects, that being, mostly vertical. The in-climate weather that day created a truly dramatic shot.

Thanks for that, while the weather can be annoying, you're right it can produce some amazing, moody results so I don't mind a little rain! :)

Excellent video Andrew, especially as you inject emotion into it. You can see that being here in Scotland meant something to you. I'm presuming your on holiday here and I hope you've enjoyed it. If you have time or you return in the future I can highly recommend the lowland half of Scotland. You'll find whether it's over towards Dumfries and Galloway or across the Scottish Borders you are totally spoiled for choice, there's castles, lochs, hills, wide rivers and forest. I would also highly recommend the Clyde Valley area which you drove through at the start of your video. Lanark has some of lowland Scotland's best waterfalls and some lovely ruins. Anyway, enjoy the holiday and keep up the excellent vids 👍

Thanks Paul, I appreciate you letting me know your feedback mate, it certainly was a special day. I wish I had more time to explore but I had to keep moving. I was over in the UK on a cricket tour but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to do some landscape photography while I was over there. Thanks for those suggestions, it looks like I might have to organise a return visit.

Great shots Andrew, I was also at Glencoe last month and it truly is a breathtaking place well worth the long trip and effort. Hope I get to do some hiking next time, you really can't see Scotland proper until you leave the roads and venture out into the country. Keep up the good work I look forward to your next adventure .

Just 'happened upon' your video by accident and I am glad I did! Living near Glasgow I am ashamed to admit that I had never heard of Finnich Glen, but will now be paying it a visit. Glad you enjoyed visiting Glencoe. I was there last week and agree it is stunningly beautiful (even in the typical Scottish summer of pouring rain)! Have subscribed to your channel to watch more of your videos. PS I liked the portrait version of your image :)

Welcome Lorna to my channel and thanks for subscribing, I'm so glad you stumbled across it. I was blown away by Glencoe to say the least, stunning vistas everywhere I looked. I wish I could have stayed a little longer. I was very lucky with the weather, just a little rain on the second day (as you'll see in the next video). Hope you enjoy the other videos! :)

Hi Andrew, I'm a keen follower of your channel and have really enjoyed your recent uploads including the one with Adam from first man photography. I hope you are enjoying your trip to the UK and I look forward to seeing some more of your adventures. For the shot in the gorge, for me, I would suggest the square crop. My reason being, I think the image is about the contrast between the green of the gorge sides and the red of the water and without having obvious foreground/middle/background the square crop balances that equally. It was good to see a different view of the buachaille from the many clichéd shots. It's an area I still have to visit and yet it's only 6 hrs away from me. looking forward to your next vlog. Derek

Thank you Derek, the UK trip has been a blast, so many beautiful locations. I like your reasoning behind the square crop, interesting. Hope you get up to the Buachaille, so you can experience it for yourself.
