I love your comparison to a landscape painter: I use that exact comparison all the time when someone asks me why I work my images. You know, "Did it really look like that?" It's my interpretation of what I remember, based on the data contained in the image.

Hi William... I follow several different landscape photographers here on KZbin, including you of course. You're all outstanding photographers, but I must say there's something special about your approach and resulting photos that I find particularly inspiring. It's almost like your photography is a sort of spiritual practice... mastering the technical aspects so that you can let go and capture the magic of the moment. I hope to do that myself one day... working on it . Looking forward to the photo book!

Enjoyed the entire video but beginning at around 27:15 really enjoyed your discussion about art and photography. I have an art background but have also been using cameras since I was very young (early 60s..a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye, lol). I would suggest to others that they look at the work of photographers from the 50s to the 70s. Even during those years before digital photography there was a lot of ‘manipulation’. Art has no limitations except the ones you put on yourself. Love your work. What an absolutely beautiful area you’ve chosen to live and photograph. All the best mate.

Hi Will & hello from Oz, thanks mate this video is so good Will, it's always so enlightening to hear & see your methods/theories etc. I'm in my Twighlight years now, I've always owned a camera & recently changed all my Canon stuff to the OM-1 system, the weight difference/advantage has been a huge help to me, along with your videos I am now enjoying photography again & take the camera everywhere I take the car. My dream now is to be able pick compositions as you do but as I've mentioned to others, you have a gods gift to do so but it gives me a challenge I'm enjoying. Please keep them coming Will, stay safe mate & cheers from Oz.

Excellent presentation! I'm not getting rid of my "dorky" Lucky 🤞strap and trading it for a boot lace strap though... I really like the way it feels on my neck even though I typically hold the camera and don't actually put all that much weight on my neck. Also, like a rifle sling, it can be used to help steady the camera... so 😝 Again, thanks for sharing! 🫶

Mate - I 've pulled the laptop for a serious reply. Firstly THANK YOU very much for answering my question, particularly the first one about: is photo blending cheating or not? I was initially thinking that it may have been a little bit contentious but you answered it superbly, with well balanced insight and maturity and brilliant indepth thought. You kinda made my day vs. the shyyyte week ive been having... wifes... nuff said. Anyway, just from that one answer, one day, when i have enough funds, I cant wait to do a workshop with you and as soon as your book comes out Im gonna buy a copy for sure! You suggested in your awesome answer that you have to define your own boundaries as a photographer, etc and I completley agree. To me photography is an art form where you capture a nano second in time, and not multiple nano seconds combined into the one image. But YES, each to their own indeed. Admitedly I get around my philosophy by taking many shots and selecting the best one when I get home, eg I use filters in seascapes and it's all about getting the right flow/steak of the water. Anyway I could go on for ever, but you are a very busy man, so THANK YOU once again, you are an inspiration.

I didn't know about the Q&A in advance, but I'm glad someone asked about natural risks / dangers. I was curious if the joke (? 🙂) "everything in Oz wants to kill you" applies to NZ as well. Ever have a desire to shoot the US desert SW type environments? E.g., Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, etc.?

Hey William, I have a question about photography. In the field, when I try to add a flower or another foreground, it often happens to me that I think I have a good balance between foreground, center and background on the small screen, but then later on the PC I realize that I have a lot of the foreground and the center and background suffer. Do you have any tips on the best angle for photographing a foreground such as a flower from a short distance?
@WilliamPatinoPhotography3 ай бұрын
You need to really keep it in mind when in the field. Make sure you’re not putting the horizon too high. Tricky to remember when it’s a great foreground haha
@tobis22653 ай бұрын
@@WilliamPatinoPhotography Thanks bro, but this is hard when in a forrest scene to with trees or a waterfall to say what the horizon line is. Maybe a good video for the future? :)

Yesterday I purchased and downloaded the Adaptive Presets Landscape Edition. I cannot install them in Camera Raw. I try ti to install them and I am told they have already been installed. But, they are not showing up. They are in my downloads folder but not in Camera Raw. There are no presets in Camera Raw with WP. So, what do I do?? I need help.
@WilliamPatinoPhotography4 ай бұрын
Hey mate thanks for that. We will sort it out. Try selecting ‘show partially compatible presets’ in the preset menu. Otherwise just email my support team and they’ll take care of it for you :) support@williampatinophotography.com
