Today I am landscaping the front corner of my brick ranch, creating contrast between the red brick, green grass, and white vinyl fence, with black mulch from Home Depot.

lol! Yeah I mean, if there were actually flowers there I'd have left them, but they bloom once a season for one day and then wilt and look like garbage. Most ridiculous "flowers" ive ever seen. so... SHEGONE!

What would look nice in the mulched areas are slow growing small round bushes, such as Boxwood. They grow very slow, only need trimmed once or twice a summer and keep their shape.

I'm stressing way too much over these stupid plants lol. I am certainly not digging out each individual plant, so I'll have to take my chances with dousing them several times with the roundup lol. And as big of a job it will be, I am looking forward to getting to the back yard.

I was in your neck of the woods today! We took a ride to Gervasi Vineyard. If you haven’t been there you and Marion need to go! We also stopped at The Party Place. Wow!!! Have to go back during Halloween. The yard looks good!

Way too much landscape to constantly maintain. I would grass the area around that tree and also grass the side of the house. Keep an area in front of the house as landscaping. You’ve done amazing with everything you’ve done though.

I do agree, it is SO MUCH to keep up with, but it looks so nice when it's all fresh and clean. I do have to say though, I honestly have lacked on keeping up with it's appearance, so it's my own fault that there was so much to catch up on this season. If I would literally just take a stroll around the yard every evening, and pull or spray anything growing through there, it would be maintained.

From what I understand hostas can really spread over time. Looks nice with the black mulch.

have you considered fake grass or gravel? better for the environment and you won't need to do so much busy work

Well I have considered white stone instead of black mulch, but even with stone, you're still gonna have weeds pushing up through it, so it's still gonna require maintenance.. but the thing I like about the stone is you can spray it off, or use the leaf blower on it to remove things like all the little debris and leaves and whatnot that falls on it. If you use a leaf blower on the mulch, all the mulch is going with it lol. And fake grass, no, I dont even know where I'd use that. There wouldnt be a problem growing actual grass if I wanted it, but I think the mulch looks nicer than just having a full yard of grass.
