Oof. That poor mustang. I'm curious to know if it is any easier to tell how far away a tornado is in person than on video. The scale of things makes it rough.
@PecosHank6 жыл бұрын
It's very difficult to tell on video. Wide angles make them look further away and telephoto lens make them look closer. In real life, the always feel closer than the actually are.

Watched somthing on the jarrel f5 tornado. What was crazy is they said it moved at 2-8mph and had 260+ mph winds. It was the worst f5 damage ever photagraphed. And had removed 18inches of dirt and all vegetation. Cows werr stripped of ther hair. Really sad the victims were told to hide in their homes. Worst advice ever with that tornado
@jepleure6 жыл бұрын
The advice "if you don't have a storm cellar/basement, take shelter in your home's most interior room" in the event of a tornado is pretty standard as about 80% of all tornadoes that strike in the US are rated EF0 or EF1 (and less than 1% are EF4 or higher), and sheltering within your home (assuming it's well-built and not a mobile home) will usually keep you safe through an EF3 tornado. In Hank's El Reno 2013 tornado video he mentions that the local news told residents to "go south" to evacuate from the tornado (which led to a massive traffic jam on Highway 81...which the tornado at one point crossed), perfectly illustrating why directing people to get in their vehicles and on the roads to escape tornadoes is a *really* bad idea. (See also: Dan Robinson's El Reno 2013 tornado video; he was one of the storm chasers hit by the outer boundaries of that tornado and was incredibly lucky to survive to tell the tale)

AAAA YES. You have no idea how happy I am that you, of all people, were there recording this! One of the cells in that line of storms made a good attempt at a wall cloud over my neighborhood earlier in the day yesterday, and I was standing outside watching it and thinking "SOMEONE is gonna get it today, but not me." I was so sad because I KNEW something was going to happen, but couldn't go after it because gas is expensive and my paycheck has apparently decided to take the scenic route through the accounts payable system.

I knew it!! I live in northern CO, too far west from the tornadoes in eastern CO but did get to eyeball the storm that eventually dropped that really long-lived tornado in southern WY. I had a feeling you were following one of those cells. I stalked those cells all day on Wunderground from my house. In my immediate area, it's pretty well impossible for a tornado to form and anything significant as it's way too hilly with mountains off to the west. That supercell that later went north to drop a tornado just above Cheyenne, WY formed right by my house and I was able to watch some of the rotation and some attempts for it to form a tornado but it juuuust couldn't do it. xD I'm not too concerned if one manages to drop around my area anyway, we regularly get EF1 force winds even without storms. I didn't realize the CO cells had dropped multiple at once. Fantastic as always!
