A Laser Engraver for Home Use? Genmitsu L8 is a GREAT MACHINE

You often hear about Laser Engravers for business and that is a good use for one, however can you use a laser for projects around the house? I am using the Genmitsu L8 20w diode laser to build some things for use in the house. This laser engraver is enclosed in a housing right out of the box. There is no assembly so you can have this machine making things within moments. The L8 is lightburn compatible so you can build and design with the best laser software. Watched your review and got one on sale. My air assist light stays red, but I verified it is getting air, not worth the hassle to deal with customer service. Pure powerhouse for what I want to do. Great Machine, thanks for the review.

Give the air assist light a little time and it should start working fine I am running mine as I type this and the light is green.

Great.I have used several of these diode machines.And this one is so easy to use. Right out of the box it hooked up to lightburn and I was cutting in no time.

@@LandtoHouse Could I ask you more more question? How much room above the lid do you need to open it? Thinking of putting it on a shelf and thats been one answer I cant seem to find :)

You will need 28" in height. And 32" depth to install the exhaust.

That's a neat machine and some good demos, thank you. If I may offer an idea, you could hang a shelf under the bench to put the air assist pump and power brick out of the way.

have you even tried that laser wavelength won't go thru the orange plastic? Most chinesium laser goggles and protection usually is useless and the laser pass thru them as well.

There seems holes on the sides ? So the laser isn't fully enclosed, you can use it without protection glasses ?

if you look inside, you will see the orange filter plastic the protects those openings. As long as you aren't looking Directly at it or a reflection of it, it's perfectly safe.

I got one when they first dropped. Their laser update software wont let me update the firmware. Fire alarm goes off constantly. Customer service tries to help (slow email responses only) but no resolution. Pretty bummed because this is a good machine. When it starts to cut or engrave, its great for about 5 minutes. Then the alarm goes off without a single flare up.

This is probably going to break a warranty but...If you are watching the machine for safety you could place some tape over the fire alarm so it does not detect light.

The directions for removing the nozzle and cleaning the Lense for the L8 Laser engraver are not helpful. I cannot get the nozzle off. how does it come off? Does it screw off? A more thorough explanation of cleaning of the Lense is needed.

Turn it anticlockwise to unscrew, it may be tight but it will come off if you unscrew it.
