I've been enjoying all your videos about the micro-hydro system and the ram pump.

Great Job on winterizing your water projects so they don't freeze! It's a nice feeling you can just hunker down and sit by the fire now knowing you won't have to go out in freezing weather and trying to fix things!

Come guys you all are close ,put the whole system indoor use two drums, one of which you turn into a Drum pump ,,^ iit must above the other drum which would have both the ram pump and generator above it,, way it should work,, Drum pump should pump the water from the lower drum to the ram pump to generator, having all the water falling back into the lower drum,,,. Or am I just crazy,,. Please fill me in with how it goes,,,.

Hey, super cool. A simple suggestion to your expansion contraction pipe by the winter, just do a curve , bend left or right with extra cable, when it happens the extra pipe rest in that curve would solve it.

My system is about 80% complete. I also bought my equipment from Langston Alternative Power. I have 1,000ft of 8” penstock going to two turbines along with A12 k Growatt inverter, 6 LifePo batteries Along with 20 solar panels for when the creek slows in 5he summer

Thank you. A new install should be filmed soon! 700w !

Wow, I've never seen the creek that low in any of your other videos. Yes definitely anchor your penstock. Part of it pulling out last year was thermal shrinkage of the plastic, but part was the pipe creeping downhill due to the weight. That happened with your old storage tanks where the supply line from the ram pump creeped downhill. Browse the RV/Camper solutions for keeping pipes, holding tanks, and batteries from freezing, most are 12v and a few watts, and could be powered by your tiny house's solar system over winter to keep your batteries above freezing.

Haha, I can't really remember you having such winter-cold blue eyes! And I am surprised that it is already freezing in NC ... but Ok, you are in the NC mountains! In central Europe we are far away from freezing, its still nearly summer here!

Thought I would try something funny with the eyes. Not sure that it worked on the thumbnail. It has been a mix of cold nights and hot days here.

Hey Seth! An idea for winterizing your catchment tanks: Install an expandable bladder type liner (material and dimensions up for debate), and then line that with a crushable insulation material like Pink Panther. It ought to allow room for expansion in the case of freezing. Just an idea.....
@Muxy80883 ай бұрын
Add a flexible expansion joint at the head, and the thermal expansion and contraction problem will be solved.
@HelloKittyFanMan Жыл бұрын
Hmm, I think you should just let the barrel and tank stay somewhat full as two bits of water storage. They may be a PitA to get to, but if you needed them, you'd be glad (as long as you had a way to clean it before trying to drink or cook with it (in case it didn't all freeze through). Wouldn't they avoid breaking if you gave them some expansion room in the lid areas?

Understandably a lot will need to be drained down etc but what about making what you can ready to run in the winter?
@HelloKittyFanMan Жыл бұрын
"And these two switches allow it to either run off of this system, or you can hook up a little power station..." Well, when you're running _off of_ that first system, then you're _already_ running ON that little power station or something else.

If the lifepo battery is large enough, would it not be possible to set up a seedling heat pad to help prolong the usage into the winter?

Hi. What make is the hydro generator and what size is it? Looking to set one up in Scotland. Thank in advance.

What's the point of opening the hydro breaker just because there isn't a supply to it at the moment?

is their anyway you can make a video on a winter micro hydro set up. I would love to be able to keep one running all year round
@LandtoHouse2 жыл бұрын
The new video on the channel with Jay's setup has been running at 15 degree nights. Apparently 100 gpm or more flow is what keeps it from freezing.

Can you maybe do an undate video on you Micro Hydro, is it still running? Or due to all the solar panels is it not in use anymore?
@LandtoHouse2 ай бұрын
I made a startup video this year but did not run the hydro for long. My next goal is to power my tiny house with the hydro power. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGPGhXeef5psZsk

Could you do a video about how much power your system has made
@LandtoHouse2 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a good video to make. We'll have to wait until springtime. I also should be installing a lithium iron phosphate battery into my system that will allow a lot more powered to be used.

"In two thousand thirteen..." Guess what: There's an easier way to say that: "TWENTY-thirteen." Why? Fewer syllables, just like most years from many previous centuries. So try it today!
