I bought a used 2020 Kia soul GT line. These safety features are beyond excellent. Yesterday I went to move to the lane next to me without my turn signal on and the car ACTIVELY put me back in the current lane. It surprised me but I loved it. This car is always looking out for my safety. And I use my turn signals a lot more now. 😂You’ve done a fantastic job and as you know the GT line from 2020 is awesome but I won’t go on here with the compliments now. Great job KIA! Great and helpful video. I have the 2021 Sorento. My only issues with these features are when they put that snowmelt on the roads(here in the US) it confuses the system thinking it’s road lines. And every time it snows, the front camera gets covered up so the front collision warning shuts down. They should have installed a washer for it.
@BrantfordKia3 жыл бұрын
So what you're describing is the front RADAR plate being blocked by ice, not the camera. The camera is in the windshield, but the error message shows up when the radar plate gets covered in slush. If you wipe it off and re-start the car, it will reset itself and work. Fair point though!

Thanks for this! I had a 22 Sienna with Lane Keep Assist which actively centered me and I could drive with no hands. I bought a 22 Prius with Lane Trace Assist and it is as you described and completely ineffective. The nudge back often doesn't work and even a slight bend in the road and you're immediately going off road with little or no correction. The Lane Keep feature on my Sienna and 23 Outback will work indefinitely if you velcro a one pound weight to the steering wheel at 9 or 3 o'clock to mimic your hand providing counter steer. I do this keeping my arm nearby just in case. Profoundly lowers arm fatigue on long trips.

Took me a bit to figure these out, as the dealer I bought from in Maryland was of no help. I've found that the 'lane following assist' is great for long trips, as it definitely helps you expend less effort, thus making you less tired. It will allow you to drift from time-to-time, so you still need to actively drive the car, but is a definite 'assist'. For the 'lane keep assist', I do not like it budging me over, but I do like the beep warning, so I turned off the budge option and have mine just give the alarm. This is in a 2021 Seltos. Thanks for the explanation.

@BrantfordKia3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there's a lot of mind boggling tech in our new vehicles. I was talking with the salespeople here the other day, and I think what's going to happen is you're going to see vehicles start to be treated like smart phones. People will set up the vehicle in one way for themselves, and another way for another driver. The vehicles will be capable of doing 100 things, and we'll all only use 20 features, but which 20 we use may vary between us. That's why it's nice to see that they're setting up "profiles" on the software. You can share the vehicle with someone and with one tap, get all the safety and technology features that you want, while the second driver can do the same.

Interesting to see that Kia has evolved the system somewhat. My 2018 Honda Accord Touring 2.0T has all these features; the LKAS (Lane Keep Assist System) and the adaptive cruise are all tied together through the same camera/radar system. Unfortunately, as I have discovered from living here in Colorado, snow is the system's archenemy. Snow/ice buildup on the radar square at the bottom of the front fascia/grille area is inevitable but understandable; there was simply nowhere else to physically locate the millimeter-wave radar and keep it out of the way. But when the snow builds up on the radar, the entire cruise control is disabled and it throws an error message on the multifunction display on the dash. The Honda LKAS does "rock" me back and forth a bit, but only after being turned on. It will "hunt" for the edges of the lane, but then when it finds them, it settles down. The process takes just a few minutes. My particular model year has had some programming glitches that cause the adaptive cruise to fail out in traffic. At random times under random situations, the adaptive cruise simply quits and throws an error message on the dash. It's an infrequent glitch in the system, and Honda can't figure it out.
@BrantfordKia2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments - I've had snow build up here too, which causes the system to not turn on. Most days the roads are clear here (after snow removal) so it's only during snow storms that it struggles.

Thanks for the explanation! IDK if its still relevant for 2021 Kia cars but it would be great if in my Niro HEV 2020 the LFA button could toggle the LKA when Active Cruise Control is active xD I got surprised when it didn't! Sometimes the roadworks and temporary line marks on the road can throw the system off and all I want is the part of ACC keeping the distance from the car in front of me. Your point about people not even trying out the systems is spot on :) I don't get when others complain about the system jerking the wheel - I found the force is pretty low and easy to counter, since - You know, the driver is supposed to keep the hands on the wheel, preferably with at least some grip

Great questions. Steering past the system just feels like driving over a slight hump on the road. This is the feature that I hate about my 2019 Forte. This is the feature that will make me never buy a Kia again. Cars have 3 task to accomplish; Start, Steer, and Stop. My Kia starts and stoppes very well. The steering is the worst part of ownership. Swerving is the best way to get a DUI and the Lane Assist is always swerving. You are not enjoying your trip if you are fighting the steering wheel the entire trip. I found this to be the deal breaker when I took a 2 day trip from NC to TX.
@vanfan19605 күн бұрын
I'm assuming you couldn't turn yours off. I just bought a 2024 Seltos, and had to drive it home 1000 miles. Thankfully, I was able to turn LKA off, for much the same reason you mentioned, it's tiring having to constantly fight the steering wheel. I am slightly confused. At 3:00 and 3:55 you point to the same button for two separate functions. Was this a mistake or am I misunderstanding? It seems like you are pointing to the left button and saying they it controls both lane keep and lane follow. Thanks!

The LANE KEEPING button is the car between the lines, the LANE FOLLOW button is the steering wheel. I apologize if pointed to the wrong ones.

How do you turn this feature off permanently so that its off when I start the engine? I always turn it off manually on the steering wheel which is annoying but less annoying that lane assist.

With the 2021 Sorento could you go over the voice controls for the physical things in the vehicle like temperature windows, etc. I didn’t know you can control things just with the UVO voice.

Facts!!!! How do you set it/turn it on and forget it? Is there anyway to leave it on all the time?

This is honestly so confusing! I bet there are thousands of users out there who are missing out on this amazing feature just because of the complicated operation! Poor I mean poor engineering!!

Hi Peter. If I understand things correctly... in the latest (i.e. 2021+ model-year) Kia and Hyundai vehicles, the principle setting for LKA is carried out in the 'Driver Assistance>Lane Safety' sub-category item in the Settings menu. Turning LKA on or off is accomplished by pressing and holding the 'Lane Keeping Assist' button (on right side of steering wheel) when the engine is on. If the engine is restarted, LKA will maintain the last setting. To turn LFA on or off you use the same 'Lane Keeping Assist' button on the steering wheel, but instead of holding the button down you simply press it briefly and release it. It's not clear to me yet whether LFA will maintain the last setting after a restart, or if it requires a new activation after each new engine restart. Perhaps you can clear this up? Thanks, Richard

Some of what you're explaining is a little different than what I've learned, but as I understand you do have to activate the LFA each time that you get in.

@@BrantfordKia Mine was on every time I started the car until I turned it off once during rain. Now it has to be turned on every time I start the car. This a 2022 Forte.

@@tc0566 Usually LKA is on, but LFA is off. I'll have to see if they changed that in the 2022 Forte here.

Thanks for a good explanation, I will try this when I get the opportunity. Do either lane keep or lane follow assist need to be activated to be in cruise mode? Some feature seems to take corners early, so early the warning sounds.
@BrantfordKia3 жыл бұрын
You don't have to use either of the lane follow, or lane keep to use your cruise control.

Thanks for the video? I guess this clears up some of the confusion. I assume this the same for hyundai and genesis as well? Also, for the 2015 genesis, there's pre departure mode and post departure mode. Is pre departure mode the equivalent of active lka and post departure mode the equivalent of standard lka? Thanks!
@BrantfordKia3 жыл бұрын
I'd have to look into the Genesis thing. There have already been a few generations of these systems, I may even update this video in the next few months.

Why doesn't auto hold and follow assist stay on. I have to turn it on everytime when starting a new trip.

I’ve the 2020/21 Kia E Niro 4+ 🇬🇧 that the top of the range model I don’t have the button you mentioned on the steering wheel, I do have the button on the in our case 🇬🇧 right side of the driver on the dash does that mean that both LKA & LFA are together. I think I can turn the two off or on in the driver preference with the buttons on the steering wheel. However thanks for the explanation as I did wonder what the difference was between the two.
@BrantfordKia3 жыл бұрын
You have Lane Keeping Assist which can be set to ACTIVE assist in your menus in the dash. It's not quite as precise as Lane Follow Assist which is the button on the steering wheel.
