I bought the IRT120 for metal style things I was working on a few months ago, and quickly found out it can be used for nearly every style of music. The clean channel is excellent and works great with pedals, both in front of amp and in FX loop. I have it going through a EVH 212 for house use. The rhythm and lead are tailorable to everyone’s needs. If you need a little tighter gain, then put a fuzz, boots or even eq pedal up front. Definitely recommend checking it out if you can.

Laney amps are criminally overlooked! My VH100 and TT50 give tones to die for in any genre you can imagine. Every vid (this too) shows the Ironheart is a worthy successor! Great video!

Excellent demo. I totally agree with you it's been marketed as a "Metal player's amp" but your demo was actually incredibly helpful for the real world pub gigging musician like you or I who needs to cover a lot of ground. I'm also a Laney enthusiast and use either a VC30 1x12 combo or GH50L with 4x12 cab depending on what's appropriate for the venue. Great British Amps 😎

Thanks for your comments on IRT60, it’s a great amp which I’m still using and will continue to use in the future it’s that good. I’m also a Laney fan having got an Ironheart 20 watt this past year which is great. Glad you liked and thanks for taking the time to comment. Cheers Kev 😊👍

Great video. I own the 15 watt rackmount studio ironheart. And I have to say, despite being mostly a metal player i find the clean channel perfectly useable for non metal or clean picked riffs. The built in reverb is useable enough to add a bit of ambience to a lead line and it takes pedals very well from vintage style boosts to fuzz pedals. Even at 15 watts i still have enough power to crank it in a studio or a small gig. I will of course purchase the 60 watter with no hesitation should i need to take the tone to bigger venues in the future.

Excellent review! And some really tasty sounds too :) I have the IRT Studio, the 15W rackmount version, and I've used it extensively live. And you're right: it is far more versatile than some would have you believe :) The boost-option (in your case Gain+) does the Tubescreamer job quite well, and if you're into David Gilmour kind of territory - which I'd guess from your black Strat you might be 😀 - then all I'd suggest is a good compressor.

Thanks Gerald for taking the time to comment which is appreciated. It is a great amp that can do so much as you know. Most of my videos are recorded using the IRT60 and I’m back out playing live with it, which is awesome. Im also using a TC Hyper Gravity for that Gilmour tone too which is a great combination. Please Subscribe if you haven’t already. Cheers Kev 👍😊

Yes really suprised how Laney would lean towards metal advertising rather than an all round amp. I bought this amp and trust me there are many other competitors out there who claim so much but can't deliver like the Laney IRT 60 can for versatility. Thank you for your honest views on this amp I bought one second hand and I have been smiling ever since.

Glad you liked the review. I’ve only ever used it with the the Pre Gain on or off and both sound great. That said I’m still using it live and also use a Laney Lionheart 20 in my studio which is a good alternative for natural tone. You may want to check out my video on that amp at the following link. Thanks, glad you enjoyed it and you have made a good choice too. I’m still gigging with mine and it’s still going strong and sounds incredible. Since that video was posted, I’ve been using it mic’d up at home when recording videos, which sounds more authentic. Enjoy your new amp 😊👍

@@GigsandGuitars My pleasure, certainly looking forward to some recording as well. Just as a matter of interest, how does it sound with the wattage turned low for practice etc?
@GigsandGuitars8 ай бұрын
@@blackie75 it’s pretty good being honest, but as it’s pushing less air than when it’s at its sweet spot it tempts you to push it harder and louder. However, play around between the lead channels and regular driven/clean channels with or with out the preamp to see how you get on at low watts. I was using it at low watts last night at home and I think it’s great, but turned up to gig levels is even better!! 😂👍

You might also want to consider the Laney Lionheart 20 watt head/combo if you are looking towards a Class A amplifier tone. I use one of these in my studio which sounds more vintage inspired and it’s a great tone. 😊
@XciteMike3 жыл бұрын
Very much apricate the demo. I've been curious about this amp for a while. One thing I can't find an answer to is if the watt control is simply a master with a different name, or whether it's actually doing something else to reduce the wattage. Don't suppose you know? Beautiful playing, by the way.
@GigsandGuitars3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mike for the support and taking the time to comment which is appreciated. I use the watt control as a master volume control and in a live band situation, I have it set to midway as a general rule at about 30 watts. This works really well as it balances nicely with the drummer and leaves me with loads of useable headroom too. I’ve got a gig coming up in the next week and can’t wait to get out and play live again! Please subscribe if you haven’t all ready done and again huge thanks for your support. Regards Kev 👍😊

Hi Miguel and thank you for taking the time to comment. I can see where you are coming from, but there is a strong risk that you will damage the output transformer. It will need a speaker connected to take the load. Have a look at my recent 2 part series called ‘Rare Amp Rescue’ which covers all things about valve/tube amplifiers and let me know what you think?
