This is the whole integral pupose of Chopan's composition. It is a lively piece yet it retains the grace and style of a waltz. A charming and thought provoking masterpiece that has become a firm favourite by musicians and audiences alike. LL added his own interpretation into the composition's three parts, as do many accomplished musicians. This is what makes The Minute Waltz so popular.

Lol you are so wrong. Chopin had very clear ideas how his music should be played and that is not like this. Chopin actually had arguments with Liszt because he played his etudes not as Chopin intended them. Kinda pretentious guy this Chopin, but I'm positive he would not like this interpretation or Lang Lang in general.

Chopin was angry with Liszt because Liszt modified the piece. Not because Lizst played the piece differently. Get your facts straight. "However, Chopin expressed annoyance in 1843 when Liszt performed one of his nocturnes with the *addition of numerous intricate embellishments* , at which Chopin remarked that he should play the music as written or not play it at all, forcing an apology"

I always say the same. People that complain about Lang Lang mostly do it because of: 1) His expressions. Well, he is an artist, he can express himself however he likes, thats totally up to him and listening the music shouldn't bother you. Plus he is much less fancy than some other pianist whose gestures are even arrogant, but that is nothing to be told here. And 2) He plays scores 'wrong'. Again, he is an artist. A more prodigious that any of his haters, very surely. As an artist, he can add his view of art (music in this instance). You wouldn't say Picasso sucked because his style was not realistic, would you? Well, same goes for music. Everything Lang Lang plays sounds 'like Lang Lang'. That makes him special. For the ones that try to search for perfection in the scores, i remember to you that scores are just written representations, not the final word, but something to make a rendition from. Very probably not even the composers played it exactly the same every time. None of the big pianists of this and the late century have become famous for being stuck and narrowed in the writtings, which would lead to stickiness in the playing and reduced flow or personality. All the opposite! They've become great artists through their own understanding of music. That's what happens with Lang Lang, same with other pianists, and that's mostly why i just LOVE hearing him play. He is at the level of piano deities.

Some people may not like his interpretation of different pieces but you can't lie- he is a very skilled pianist. To be at such a level where you can play as free as you want in tempo and dynamics whilst keeping the notes clear with articulation and without looking at the keys, is incredible.

@@sender1496 He's turned it into a jingle. He's trivialized it. If you can't recognize it there's no point going further with a discussion. If you're someone who thinks this is what classical music is for, to be used like a piece of meat on a cooking show to show off with, then that's what it is for you. He turns music into jingles, like old-style TV commercial music. He trivializes it. Probably to you that seems like a wonderful thing. Chopin didn't play this music as some kind of trivial show tune. His music wasn't written to use to show off fingers.
@sender1496
@sender1496 2 жыл бұрын
@@joemiller95 I'd agree with you if this was Chopin's second sonata, but it's a waltz. I think in this case, you're the one who doesn't understand the context of the music. Just because I think it would be interesting, you should try listening to Rachmaninoff playing Chopin's waltzes. And you can only imagine how Liszt would play some of Chopin's pieces (however in that case, he would protest at times, and perhaps rightfully so). I do think that Lang Lang tends to make things ridiculous but in this case, he doesn't overstep, even a bit, and I think anyone who thinks he does are brainwashed from current music norms. A contemporary proof of this fact is that metronome markings tend to shock us - we're so used to hearing pieces being played in a certain way that any attempt to recreate the original tempo completely shocks us, even though that's what the composer intended. I think in your case, you're probably used to hearing this waltz being played in a certain way, and that's probably why you dislike this interpretation, much more so than any "composer's intention"-explanation.

You know... You should never call someone's taste in music rubbish just because you dislike it... I find that when you are the one playing you have the song playing in your head (an ideal version that you like) and you just play freely however you want and it's so satisfying because you are doing what you love. When you start playing freely, it is as if your fingers have a mind of their own as they fly across the keys...I am not sure how to explain it logically but, I guess music is important because it should make the audience feel happy. However in saying that it should also make the person playing feel happy. If he loves the song the way he recreated it...please let him be... I apologize for sounding so controlling and pushy but I feel so strongly that everyone has their own music and it makes me sad when people only accept the ideal or optimal piece... Music is different for everyone.

He's not quite my favorite pianist, but he IS very talented and interesting. Saying he's not a good musician/pianist is just objectively wrong, and you look like a fool by stating something so incredibly stupid. For example, take a look at his masterclasses. He has a lot of insight to every piece, and his prima vista is amazing which is a true indicator of experience/talent. Can you say that of yourself? That's what I thought.

Chad K I think he has an important role of spreading classical music in the media, to people who otherwise would never get interested. He has done it on a larger scale than maybe anyone ever before. But sure, when I listen to recordings, I'll basically never listen to Lang Lang because there are many other pianists that I prefer. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't go to his concert if he played nearby. Do you say, that there are only about 15 real pianists and the rest suck? I bet you're up there on third place right after Rubinstein, too. OR, maybe you're an inexperienced amateur whose ear hasn't developed yet enough to listen to yourself critically. Do you have 200 concerts a year? Can you revive any of the 80 concerti that you know, on a short notice? You should, if you say you're better than him. I know it's quality over quantity, but that's the kind of objective professional level you're putting yourself up to. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I think it's unlikely considering how you're channeling your energy towards your "colleagues".

Look at Fazil Say and Evegny Kissin, two of the greatest ones. But here's one thing for sure. If making such facial expressions would allow me to play even marginally close to as well as Lang Lang, you can bet that I would make them. I'd make even more extreme expressions if it would help me play a lot better than I do. But I guess they are two separate things for the most part---his great talent and his facial expressions, which probably channel his feeling for the music. I can make all the expressions i want and I don't play a bit better.

For everyone calling Lang Lang terrible I'D LOVE to see you learn this piece!! Especially this fast, it's incredibly hard, and you all are being unrespectful to him, I am impressed at how fast he can play this, because I've been playing.this piece for over a year and I can't play as fast as he can. So please anyone to hate, show a vid of you playing this piece while we can criticize you, because you can't do any better than he did. Or really close to as good

Sorry... but there is no evidence to support what you are saying with regard to young people doing so much and mankind getting better. Your statement is nothing but feel-good nonsense. Why don't turn on a radio station and take a listen to the crap that passes for music today. And if you think it is so simple and easy for young people to play a piece like Minute Waltz, you really need a reality check. Do you have any idea how many hours a day Lang Lang has practiced the piano since he was a little kid? Your statement is also an insult to the mass amount of effort he has put into this to get where he is.
@Artaxerxes.
@Artaxerxes. 6 жыл бұрын
Its kinda stupid if you think you and lang lang are on the same level john. Lang can achieve in 1 hour of practice what many people including you take months to do. you are insulting Lang Langs talent by spewing out "hard work" bullshit. Admit it, not everyone requires the same hard work to achieve something. So dont say that Lang Lang is good only cause he worked hard. It almost seems like you feel like you can achieve the same if you work as hard. Cut the bullshit. he's better cause his brain is. So stop bullshitting yourself and admit that he's much better and much more talented
@johnnastrom9400
@johnnastrom9400 6 жыл бұрын
Artaxerxes -- Reread my comment (or have someone read it for you in the event you do not know how to read) and point out where I stated or implied that I was on the same level as Lang Lang. I know the guy has talent. I never said he didn't, you dummy! However, talent alone won't make you a world class pianist. He still had to practice hours a day from the age of 5 and still does (according to Lang Lang himself in interviews) to get where he is today. That was my point of that statement! And the general point of my reply to Mauro was to refute the nonsense implication that Lang Lang can do this because the younger generation can do so much more than their predecessors. Obviously, reading comprehension is not your forte.

Searched up Chopin for some motivation, and I came across Lang Lang. I supposed he’s helped as I am sitting at my piano now. Don’t really know what happened to my love for playing. I feel like I’ve lost it amidst all the other things piling onto life. Piano is supposed to be an escape, no? Yet now it feels like another chore. Anyways, thank you Lang Lang, I’m going to practice now.

i do hope LangLang played this piece just as a warm-up to get the feel of the piano because he is capable of playing with much more feeling than this and not just tossing it off, as witnessed by the huge bang at 12'' and the disdainfully played staccato note at 39'' and 41'' Not a recording I would cherish.

Its not just about playing fast or correctly . The another thing is how you put your feeling and emotions in it. Lang Lang put his feelings in the piece which he played. It's not like there is an Asian better than you. Maybe he would be better but the thing is that when you play something in front of your friends or relative or anyone how much they ENJOY. That's what matter. Sorry for my bad English.
