Hi, Alexandra! How is it going? Loved your video, really helpful! Still, I have a doubt: It is essential for me to use a piece of paper to take notes, whether listening, writing or speaking. Do they allow to have some sheet on hand? Thank you!!
@lexisenglishclub
@lexisenglishclub 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Claudia, thank you! As for your question about a piece of paper, I guess I have never even asked them about it because I saw no point in having it. During listening you simply have no time to jot down anything before it stops, in reading and writing you have an online form so there is absolutely no need to use one. What's more, you hardly have any time to put down your ideas when preparing for the speaking section. So, no need for anything other than your diligence and concentration :) Hope it helps!

Hi Alexandra, thanks for your tips and information that are going to turn really useful for me, as I am taking the Language Cert Esol C1 level online shortly! What I am worried about is that on their website they recommend that the laptop screen is at least 15'' but mine is 14''! What is your experience about it? Did you have any problem with screen resolution or scrolls? And about the camera: should it really be a 360° one (as they write on the website) or is it enough just to turn the laptop to show there is nobody else in the room? thanks!

Thank you for sharing this. My writing speed is quite slow. I am familiar to write an essay on paper, but I found more people choose an online exam. Could you give me some suggestions? Maybe I am worried too much because some people said that ESOL provides a sufficient amount of time for students to finish their essays.
@lexisenglishclub
@lexisenglishclub 3 жыл бұрын
Hey :) Thanks for asking! I guess it's a no-brainer that practice is key when it comes to writing. Some people mistakenly believe that typing is much easier and faster than writing by hand, but the number of characters you produce in an electronic form within some certain period is also a matter of practice. What I suggest is that you first try both - handwriting and typing and choose what appeals to you more. Then, after you've decided, practise it as long as you need. Anyway, no matter what format you opt for, I recommend you write a complete essay in just one sitting by putting down all your ideas non-stop. After you finish, take a look at the whole piece of writing and only then edit it. Hope it helps :)

@@lexisenglishclub That's really helpful! I will try to write an essay on a computer and I have taken two attempts on IELTS by handwriting. I achieve reading, listening, and speaking higher than 7, but struggling with writing, only 6.5. I need to get a 7 in IELTS or ESOL C2 pass. I found there is no paper-based centre in my city, so if I like to have a paper-based test, I have to book a flight to other cities. So, I worried about taking online exams because I do not have experience with it. Could I write on paper and then type into a computer while taking ESOL ONLINE exam?

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am yet to take the exam, but as I have noticed you are quite fluent in speaking. So, no wonder that you had had plenty of time for proofreading. One question: You started at 9:00 o'clock in the morning and the second part (Speaking) started at 1:00 p.m. What, if you have to go to the restroom? Somewhere, I read that it is not allowed to leave the room during the exam. So, do I need diapers? So, the whole exam took about 4 hours and 16 minutes. Am I right?
@lexisenglishclub

Thank you for asking :) Not exactly: the two parts are taken separately (i.e. Listening, Reading, Writing (1) and Speaking (2)). I had Part 1 (S, R, W) at 9am and finished at 11am (I finished earlier, but I had 40 mins more, overall this part lasts for 2h40m). Then I had a break and had Part 2 (Speaking) at 1 p.m. In a nutshell, you can schedule the parts for any time most convenient for you. I guess you cannot have any breaks during your exam, but if you have some medical issues, I think you can write to their support team. Hope it helps :)

@@lexisenglishclub Oh! That sounds discouraging given that there's basically no available material in order to practice, apart from their 2-3 tests. When you say different, do you refer to the structure, the difficulty level, or both? Lastly, I would like to ask another important thing. When it comes to listening, for instance, for parts 3 and 4, their questions follow the conversation's flow, that is they are asked in chronological order. Was it the same in your exam, or were the questions spread out within the task? That would make the listening part much more difficult, in my opinion. Thanks for your availability.

@@3duardable hey :) I’d say the samples are different in their levels. But when I was getting ready, I thought it was understandable because the exam is relatively new and they needed time to prepare their samples. @@lexisenglishclub Spasiba for your input! I am particularly concerned about Listening since I had a horrid experience with the TOEFL Home Edition version the other day. Due to technical issues, I missed out on important bits of 2 conversations, so I f----d up both my section-derived and overall score. I was meaning to re-sign up for TOEFL, but thankfully I came across LanguageCert, and given that the university of my interest accepts it, it was a no-brainer for me. Love how practical ESOL sounds and looks like compared to TOEFL. TOEFL is not a test assessing your language skills primarily, in my point of view. Reading tasks are highly challenging and test your time-management skills, listening feels like a preparation for sudoku, and speaking actually feels like training for listening. Good grief.
