Brilliant song writer he was. His sudden demise will be felt for years to come, mostly because of the political+cultural voice he created against the corrupt politics of the island.

@තාරින් ජයසිංහ Yes, that does makes perfect sense. There has to be a deep rooted decadence among the population in order to end up electing gutter trash lowlife bum politicians like the ones Ceylon manage to elect in each election. I think Wijeweera's approach(1971 one, even though it was ill timed with the new government just started to do good things) was correct by using young people for the most part. As people get older they become lazy & corrupt(a natural tendency due to diminishing youth hormones in the body I think from biological perspective). You need a revolutionary(preferably a democratic one) to gather good, honest and driven young politicians with some good older political theorists to guide to build a system. Having a great leader is the key. For such a leader to emerge out of decadent society is a tough ask. Colonialism has been behind the decadence among Sinhala collective psyche for last 100-200 years, but it started long before through the instability of the corrupt and self serving Sinhala dynasties in last thousand years. It would be closer to a miracle if things can change in Ceylon, back to the great society and system they had over thousand years ago, but I am pretty skeptical about the possibility. All I can see is the continuing degeneration. Sinhalese people always managed to absorb the crappy, degenerate, decadent, violent & perverted aspects of the western society but rarely absorbed the good and progressive aspects of the western society. You can blame the colonialism for the current situation to some extent, but it won't help. I am personally convinced leaders like SWRD & Wijeweera had the correct understanding about where to take the country, what to do and what not to do, but both were well short of leadership and resilience related skills, hence the reason for both of them to end up before they got started. Wijeweera had the progressive mindset coupled with great understanding and intuition about the root causes of the holistically poor state of the country. SWRD had the great liberal mind aided with his liberal vision. Had Wijeweera did not go south with his reactions after 1983 ban, he would've made a great contribution as a politician.

I think we should crown Sunil as the king of the political-social satire music. He's definitely that good. I just can't believe he is no more.
