Lanolin - How to extract nature's own moisturiser from Raw Sheep's fleece Part 1

I set out to create a video on scouring (washing) Raw sheep's fleece believing myself to be well qualified.
Only, I found That I had a great deal to say about Lanolin and that it warranted a video of its own.
I was also inspired by Welsh cottage by Zina • #lanolin #sheep #wool ...
A likeminded wool enthusiast that is following her own journey in extracting Lanolin.
However, as there is a great deal of misinformation out there, I certainly did not want to add to the confusion!
I know how to extract raw lanolin and know what doesn't work
but in order to share my methods, I needed to clarify the reasons why the methods work or don't work.
The more I read the more I wanted to include and then came the question of how to refine it.
It was my intension to include the theory and then post the video, already several days later than promised. then get back to editing my scouring video.
But, again there is conflicting information out there and having not tried the theory myself, it just didn't sit well with me.
so plan C was to was born!
This is part one, I will now do some experiments so that i can evidence my findings and report back in part 2.

You are more than welcome! Jac's fleece went into the pot today and started a suint fermentation scour that will take at least a week. I will be experimenting with refining methods to ensure I can get adequate and reliable results to share

Thank you! I will be setting a suint scour up in the morning. I am wondering whether the raw lanolin from suint scoured fleece would require further refinement? I will be comparing it to a refining method. The suint scour will take at least a week. Hoping it will be worth the wait.

That was so interesting, thank you! When I spin I only wash the fleece lightly, as I love the feel of the lanolin when I spin. I never thought about trying to extract the lanolin - so I'm really looking forward to your next episode.

Thank you! I plan on comparing two method of refining the raw lanolin. But for one I will need to suint scour the fleece first, which will take at least a week. Hopefully it will be worth the wait!

There will be very soon! As I hadn't actually tested the theory on refining, I thought I better had. Especially having discredited an extracting theory. The results were disappointing! So I have challenged myself to find a way of using accessible substances and equipment to get good results in practice. I have been posting some of my experiments on my Fflwff facebook page. I am getting close!

In my most recent batch, I used grated olive oil soap bar, but usually use unicorn powerscour or Austration fibre scour for special fleeces and dish washing up detergent for everything else. Dawn, fairy or an eco dish washing detergent.
