As a Lagos Islander, I was introduced to Sakara by nature because you hear it in every corner. However, it was my neighbour's father (May his soul RIP) that made me fall in love with it. Before he died, he was very sick for a long time but his face always lit up and you could see the joy in his face whenever he played Baba Legba music. Since then, I have become a die hard Yusuf Olatunji (Sakara) lover after Fuji music - specifically Agbajelola Barry Black. I especially enjoyed how he differentiated the different genre of music. It was great to get clarity on the origin of the rift btw Baba N'gani (Haruna Ishola) and Yusuf. I wish the Honorable would write a book on Sakara or maybe even a documentary. My fear is that the knowledge he has about the important genre is wayyy too much for it not to be on cloud record. I must say, this is not only a history on Sakara musc but more like history of commercial music in Yorubaland. Thank you to everyone that made it happen.

It's obvious the Honourable's love for Yusuf Olatunji. He couldn't even hide his biasness. S. Aka Olawale Baba Waidi was an highly intelligent musician. He was an undisputed Chief Composer and innovator. He mastered his act and discharged it with finesse - grace, glamour and class. S. Aka was never a rebel. The Hon. no doubt has knowledge of Sakara music but there are some flaws in his submissions he contradicts himself and that is because of his love for Baba Legba it shows his research was one sided being a fan of Baba legba. For him saying Ayinde Barister sang S. Aka songs more better, and that only Owu people loves S. Aka music is far from the truth. S. Aka fans spread across the yoruba land, from Jeba to Kano also across the west Africa. The late Baba Lamidi Adedibu was a diehard fans of S. Aka. S. Aka achieved many FIRST, First to take Sakara music to London, first to buy Motor, first to build an upstairs "The S. Aka Mansion" he owns a record label "Omoboriowo sound record" a subsidiary of Omoboriowo Trading Company (OTC) with a foreign partners etc. The Honourable was so affirmative on the age difference between S. Aka and Yusuf Olatunji despite not knowing the date of birth of S. Aka and Baba legba didn't have a record of birth period yet said S. Aka was very junior to Yusuf Olatunji. Let me inform the Honourable and Agbaletu that S. Aka was born in 1909 and he died in March 1978 at the age of 69. In July 2003, the surviving children of Baba S. Aka celebrated 25 year remembrance of S. Aka at Cultural center Abeokuta. The late Olubadan was the chairman of the program anchored by late Uncle Toba Opaleye of blessed memory. I think Agbaletu should reachout to the children/fans of S. Aka at least for us to hear their own "biased" side of the story 😂. There's one Alhaja Salmot Aka Tejuoso in Abeokuta, she's a biological daughter of S. Aka, she's also a long time stakeholder in entertainment industry. Agbaletu can contact her to balance this story. However, both S. Aka and Baba Legba are legend may their souls continue to rest .

I really appreciate the deep knowledge of Anjolaiya on Sakara. I have also listened to the young chap who claimed to be Babalegba's scion. For the sake of posterity, I humbly apply that both scholars should integrate their wisdom and position for a lasting knowledge of Sakara. They both desrved to be made Professors on Sakara just like Ebenezer Ober was made Prof at OSU. I salute their uncommon knowledge of a rare field. PABIEKUN

Awa fe fun wan lesi. Onimolo ton rojo aaagidigbo. S.aka the great composer. Listeners pause to debate on Aka’s music to decipher what he could be saying in his stories and metaphors, his music is not for the faint minded who doesn’t understand the importance of stories and parables/metaphors. 😅 everyone of them was good and great, life is not only about faaaji, music is not only for faaaji. Cheers.

Agba man try to go and listen very well when you have nothing to do at the time of your relaxation as time goes on you will understand. Listen to the message and the lyrics as a young man you may find it difficult to dance to because the tempo is slow and that’s blues music in the western music some body like Jim Reeves and Don Williams compare to James Brown and who play Jazz. I give my Regards to Honorable for having this history in his memory he a great historian 👏 👏 👏 Agba man more grease to your elbow ride on the sky is the limit More Blessings 🙏🏽

This is a tour de force. Kudos to Anjolaiya and the interviewer. However, I completely disagree on Saka Layigbade. Layigbade started his Sakara before Fuji. However, he was at the top when Fuji was in full flight, and pushing all other Yoruba music forms to the wayside. Layigbade was forced to adjust to stay relevant hence the faster tempo than classical Sakara. Saka Layigbade and Sikiru Abinuwaye Sakara was Sakara classic in the late 60s and early 70s, before Fuji became known.

Guess what your guest analysis is very flawed . Yoruba did not start with Oduduwa. Herodotus the father of history mentioned Ife as of the 3 cities in ancient Africa. Therefore Ile Ife has been in existence before Oduduwa. We have several Obas at ife before the advent of Oduduwa. Also, Oranmiyan has several children besides Ajaka and Sango. He father Adimula of Ipetu Ijesa, oko, and Lajodogun the lineage that is currently ruling ILe Ife as Ooni. Also Benin dynasty is a lineage of Oranmiyan 😊

Drums has been in existence before oduduwa, the sango you are referring to is not Ajaka oko's brother ....its just a nick name. Finally, oduduwa did not exist in the 11th century, you are following what the white people wrote for us!
@omoedumare639

Oduduwa is the grand father of Yoruba. The Yoruba race is Yoruba Oyo, not the whole Yoruba as we know us these days. Ootu is what we used to be known as. Ootu ife is the Orisun of all others, such as Egba, Ijebu, Ijesha, Igbomina and all others. Obatala, Orunmila, Oranfe are few of the fathers of Ootu. Those are the grand fathers of Oduduwa himself. We have proofs that Yoruba has been in existence for well over 140,000yrs. The story that Oduduwa t'ewonro is fiction -Alo for entertainment. Please, see to it that this errors are corrected. There were at least 97 Oba of Ife before Oduduwa. Oduduwa is not the first father of the race Ootu out of which Yoruba later sprung out. Even Oduduwa himself wasn't Yoruba since the race that came to be known as Yoruba are strictly the descendants of Oranmiya. Fun Akawe: Abraham wasn't Israelite. Jacob was renamed Israel so his descendants are the Israelites. As Oduduwa is called Father of Yoruba is same reason Awolowo is the father of Yoruba. It's their role and achievements during their times.

@@igeadubi5883 How could he get all the details on Sakara wrong. Yes, there are inaccuracies in his accounts on Sakara, but he is one of the best on Sakara there is. His attempt to dabble into the history of Yoruba drums and tracing it to Sango is obviously wrong. As he said he is not a historian, so it is understandable that he is off completely on Yoruba history, but his understanding and history of Sakara is excellent - nobody can be perfect, so the few inaccuracies are understandable.
