Lanshan 2 Tent. Updated review after 80 days of use after completing the Colorado Trail.

I've not used mine as many times but enough to lose count. I concur with everything. I had a fingernail go through the mesh, an easy fix with Tenacious Tape. Recently I was too tired to check carefully to remove sticks and sharp stones. I do have the extra groundsheet protector but thought I'd just repair any holes I make. It was fine though, no sign of damage on the groundsheet or protector. Condensation is generally not too bad and I've altered the main guylines to allow me to get it lower and separately peg the doors. The only place it has ever leaked is through the stitching for the side pull-outs. A little seam sealer on each side and there's been no more leaks. It's snug with 2 people but there's room in the vestibule for the rucksacks and good height in the tent. It's a brilliant tent and well worth the money.

A good honest and informative review of the Lanshan. Personally I would have used a liner under the groundsheet, but that's me.

I've had two lightweight tents that cost over £300 and were not as good. The only thing you will need are 2 walking poles ( best to get better quality ones as cheap ones don't last ). I have found using walking poles great, helps with uphill walking and helps out knees on steep downhills.

@@huntonthetrails Yeah, Ive a couple of pairs of poles - the last ones I got were £6 for the pair! Only gripe Ive got with them is that the handles are a bit rough.

Have you tried Tyvek as a groundsheet? Its a building membrane material, incredibly light and really strong. Ive just got some so Ill be giving it a go at the weekend.

I replace my Tent with 3F UL Gear Lanshan 1, this is so much easy and I been looking for a brown tent! Last one is Grey and it just looks Dirty all the time! Made a Video yesterday on the mods i use to make it easier for me to set up. Thanks for making the Video.

Yeah I have holes in my green Lanshan 2, had it a few years but bramble etc....but easily fixed with siltape :-) Mine was around £100 in an Amazon sale.

@@huntonthetrails I was tempted to get a Naturehike Cloud Up 2 because worried about storms as I'm about to go on a 2-3+ week trip to Scotland venturing on trails that are mostly sheltered but the final trail is coastal so not so much cover. Your reviews saved me some money! I might still get that Naturehike for winter, but I got some of those Alpkit stakes instead. My Lanshan 2 has survived 30-35 mph winds. It's flappy and yes...had the odd time it's fallen on me - more in the Lanshan 1, which I got in 2020, but usually cos the stakes weren't in or it's not properly setup in soft ground. I will say this - it's easier said than done getting the poles up in a high wind or rain; when yours just stood up without a guyline I lol'd cos in real world you need to put the pole in and simultaneously guy it. Which can be tricky.

@@huntonthetrails also I highly recommend the Delta ground anchors, or just double pegging if you don't have those stakes, it makes a LOT of difference. But when I'm drenched trying to retension it at night. it doesn't get setup as nice as here!

Sold. Probably a Black Friday purchase (falls November 25th this year). I will be going for the four season inner. I assume that you do not use the footprint. Would that have solved the moisture penetration from below?

Yes, I think it would. However, saying that I have just used the tent on a 2 day trip in Scotland, pitched it on wet ground and had no issues.

Just wondering if you get the inner flapping a lot when it's windy? I've got the 4 season inner and find that I get hit in the face by the inner flapping! I love the tent and I don't think I'm pitching it wrong

I get some, but its the outer which I notice flapping and making lots of noise. I think the mesh inner on the 3 season will let air flow through it more.

Very, very useful review thanks. I've been using the Lanshan 2 Pro for a few trips this year in the UK and the lack of inner is irritating me when condensation builds up. I'm coming to the conclusion that the L2 Pro is better suited for warmer, drier climates. I see 3F UL are doing the L2 for $156 (about £124) at the moment - not bad. I see also that the L2 comes pre-seam sealed whereas I had to do my own on the L2 Pro. However, they still recommend proofing the side guy tie-out point stitching. Hi Ben. Thanks for your nice comments. I am very fussy when it comes to condensation, hence why I have avoided single skin tents. The Lanshan 2 is not perfect for air flow, but certainly good enough for 3 season use. It's just really robust too. I've just purchased a brown one and on this one noticed a little leakage in very heavy rain on the guyline attachment points at the side. I have since but sealant on this. Everything else perfect though.

I love your vids. Just wondering, when you said you wouldn't use the tent 4 season, is it due to the fact there is no frame(for wind and snow)? I have a 4 season inner but haven't tested the tent in winter yet

No frame, inner wont help you in crazy wind or top or mountains, will flap like mad and rip you pegs out it bad storms. You want to pitch you tent where isnt so windy thats all. 4 season inner its only for making it a bit warmer inside when cold.

Gregory has nailed it. The tent totally relies on tension and is noisy in high winds, plus its susceptable to getting snow under the flysheet. Put the flysheet lower and you get a lot of condensation.

3:season inner which is great for me. I don't use this tent in winter in the UK . Too much condensation !

Thanks for the info on this tent. Have you ever set up just the outer tent for a shelter? It seems like taking out the inner and replacing it with a footprint could save some weight at the cost of bug protection.

It could. We frequently used just the outer as a shelter in the thunderstorms. Really quick to put up. You would save a little bit of weight with a footprint over the inner if you wanted to.

It does. I showed a bit on my original lanshan review of it in 60mph+ winds. How it stayed up I dont know, but, it was very noisy and I didnt sleep !

Hey pal, great reviews, im seriously considering getting one in khaki 4 season inner, make some mods and upgrades to it too. Ive got Wild Country Helm 2 its great but with footprint etc wights close to 3 kg and takes too much space. With Lanshan I could take it solo and also with my partner, seems great👍There are some other options like X-Mid Durston tent but not so many and these are super expensive plus tax to UK...Living in Scotland but should be ok👌 Whats your thoughts on 3 or 4 season inner? Cheers

Hi. Thanks for commenting. I've used the Lanshan as a solo tent and you will certainly notice the weight difference in your pack. As for 4 season use, I don't think its a 4 season tent. Brilliant for 3 season backpacking but I would want a different design for winter. I did a video on this having used it in december last year which you can check out on my channel. Having the full mesh on the inner is nice in warmer weather and great when there are lots of midges around. You don't feel stuffed up in your tent as much as with a full fabric inner. However, in cooler weather you might want the 4 seaon inner for a bit more wind protection and warmth. £ season works fine for me and is a tad lighter.

Anyway tent seems good amd cheap enought.

I didn't have a choice, it was the only colour left. It is bright inside which is nice, but it's not good for stealth camping. I have since got a brown one 😁

I bought this same tent thru ali express ~5 yrs ago as a way to test out a trekking pole style tent at an affordable price ($100 us dollars for everything). It performed quite well in the California High Sierra alpine zone! Unphased when dealing w/ heavy rain, hail, and strong wind gusts. Securing the stakes with large rocks or tying a coupke of the guy lines directly to them helped tons with the overall stability! I hope to get another season or two out of the lanshan 2!

Random question. I'm looking at buying a Lanshan 2 and have noticed that many of them have a different brand name other than "3F UL." Like "Mier," "Flame Creed" and "Kikilive." I've read that that's down to them being made in one factory then sold to companies that sell them, hence the different brand names. Because yours is yellow I'm assuming it's not a 3f ul version and so (at last 😂) I get to my question: Which brand is it?

The yellow one is a 3F UL one. I have since got a brown Flames Creed Lanshan 2. They seem identical. Equally good materials. Just used it on the Syke Trail in Scotland. Great tent.

Its not a tent I would use in winter and certainly not in snow. Fine to about freezing then the potential for lots of condensation after that.

Yes. I think solo will be fine. If you share with someone else you will find your head touching the inner. I am 1.83m and it is ok for me with another.....just !

I am 6ft /185cm. Fine for me, even when sleeping on a thick thermarest sleep pad. However, I do think at 190cm you could end up with the inner on your feet or head ( unless you are using it solo when there would be loads of room ).
