Which 3F UL Gear Lanshan 2 tent should you buy? Should you buy the standard 3F UL Gear Lanshan 2 backpacking tent or the 3F UL Gear Lanshan 2 Pro tent? This review also looks at the advantages and disadvantages or single wall and double walled trekking pole tents.
I think the Lanshan 2 trekking pole tent is excellent value for money. It's a proper 2 person tent and ultralight backpacking gear and costs substantially less than most ultralight tents.
The 3F UL Lanshan 2 tents can be tricky to pitch. I recommend practicing at home so when you go wild camping you can pitch them quickly and easily.
The drawbacks to the Lanshan tents is that the fly is a fair way off the ground. This is great for ventilation but not when it's cold. You can lower the height of your trekking poles to reduce the distance between the fly and ground. The Lanshan Pro 2 tents do not come seam sealed. The pegs are small and thin so if camping in the wind, I would recommend upgrading your pegs. Some people take two ground anchors with them for the side guys.
Buy the different varieties of Lanshan 2 tents here:
3F UL Gear Lanshan 2 4 Season £130 www.camperlist...
3F UL Gear Lanshan 2 PRO 3 Season £137 www.camperlist...
3F UL Gear Lanshan 2 PRO 4 Season £149 www.camperlist...
Note that Camperlists give you the option to purchase an optional footprint, additional guy lines and a Z Packs style door hook. All prices include VAT & Duty unlike other sites. I personally prefer the T-Zip models but you can buy the traditional L-Zip models too.
Double Wall, 4 Season Specs:
SPECS:
Weight:2.53 lb / 40.56 oz / 1150 g
Dimensions:86.6 in (L) x 49.2 in (H) / 220 cm (L) x 125 cm (H)
MATERIALS:
Color:Green / Gray / Khaki
Outer tent: 15D Silicon coated nylon
Inner tent: 3 season: 20 D mesh / 4 season: 15 D nylon
Bottom: 20D Silicon coated nylon
Zipper: 3#YKK
I've been using Camperlists for a long time now, since their site was first set up. James has always been really knowledgeable and helpful. My links are affiliated so I get a tiny kickback if used but you do not pay any more. If you're against Creators making a little bit of money simply Google the name of the tent and buy elsewhere.

Great review Well done Just spent 3 weeks in the Lakes camping in my Lanshan Pro II 3 season I had some very wet and stormy conditions Pro II single skin, means you can wipe off the condensation easily Double skin means you cannot reach the condensation 3 season has much less condensation as it gives much more air thru than the 4 season You did not discuss the walking pole height There is a full range from 110cm to 125cm 110 is very poor conditions lowers the sides of the tent a seriously reduces wind and rain 125 is lovely and airy and reduces condensation I have used the Pro II 3 season in quite cool conditions and it is not as cold as you make it out once you have dropped the pole height An option use a bivi bag which adds 350g to 'winterize' the 3 season without buying a 4 season I carry a bivi bag in the winter with any tent keep up the good work

Im on my 2nd Lanshan , my Pro 1 came with both zippers opening huge difference, My Lanshan took a thorough beating on my Camino Francis in March and April . I thought she was a goner a few nights in 60 mph winds . Incredible. I did seam seal 3x which may have affected the strength. I'm about to buy my 3rd . Here in California, my Sierras in the fall and Spring gets UK cold , I think I'm going with another single wall and yes just wipe down upon waking up. Buen Camino

Hi Andy. Another great review. I used the LS2 4 season pro The last 2 years in good weather. The main problem I had was when having to camp on gravel ground and getting the main guy pegged in well enough to keep the tent up. I got thr LS1 3 Sears pro for my East Highland Way hike a couple of weeks ago and had the same problem 1 night pegging out tent, but the big problem was a night it started raining heavily and about 3am I thought the tent was leaking but it wasn't, the condensation was being knocked off by the rain and showering me and all my gear. In future I would wipe the inside every 2-3 hours in the same conditions. I like both tents but now I'm lookout for light freestanding tent.

Love my lanshan 2 mate, my companion and I backpacked the Northumberland coastal path using the Lanshan 2. I can confirm it is absolutely superb and once pitched correctly (we used sand pegs), it was rock solid with loads of room for two of us . Had loads of rain and wind the first night the tent brushed it off with impunity. Overall great value shelter, totally concur with your review.

The New versions of the 3 season standard have partial solid panels at the head and foot ends to protect you from drafts along with the T zips now . Pro 3 season is my tent of choice , bigger than the standard and stronger materials , along with my easy pitch mod kits makes a cracking tent , nice viddy 👍

The great thing being a trekking pole tent is you can lower the poles to help with the draughts. The pro you definently feel the extra space and the new T zip is great. Bugs on the standard inner are a problem as they can fly between the inner and outer. Seem sealing is annoying on the pro however and I have had it leak at the guy points, also condensation is also a thing. Both can easily be managed though

I've got the standard lanshan 2 4 season and is my favourite tent. I've just recently upgraded the 4 season j zip inner to a t zip as definitely the better of the 2. The mesh on head and foot end is what deterred me as definitely wouldn't like the cold blasting on me all night

I've actually decided so trade these in for a DW 4S T-Zip. I think that's the ultimate Lanshan for UK weather. I should say, it's also well worth adding extra guys on the peaks too with some decent pegs.

Up here in the Rockies I take the original 4 season tent as at altitude the temperature drops by 5 degrees every 1000 ft …. We were at 11,500’ the other week and we had a hard frost in August!! 🥶 but I stayed nice and toasty 😁…. Like you say it’s kinda weather dependent…. But whatever you take the Lanshan 2 is an awesome tent for the price… thankyou for the review 👍👍

At this point, I feel a DD 3x3 Superlight tarp and a bivvy bag is a better option, for me personally. Some tents are so minimal that I believe it's better to go the whole hog and save a bit of money and weight. I make a similar shaped shelter as these tents with my tarp and it's great!

How about the half person 5 season for homeless veterans? OK bad joke. Sorry. I have a Lanshan 1 white and bought a new Lanshan 1 Plus (Flame's Creed) with 230 cm inner. Not used yet. And to be honest I'm second thoughts about the Khaki. I wish there was light blue. Yes I like bright colors. I don't camp wild. And I'm a cyclist. Anyway, I wonder if there are any advantages of a 1 Person? Bit lighter of course if you don't use trekking poles. Better wind resistance? Smaller footprint. Yes there is less head space. I guess in the UK weather you hang out more inside your tent. But with the Lanshan 1 you can have one trekking pole left and use a small tarp from the top of the tent to that trekking pole. I never see people do that?

I find, if it's windy or cold, just lowering the poles a bit and pegging the sides down directly, it's easily managed. As for the mesh being too cold, I don't really feel that. I tend to use my sleeping bag to keep me warm and a tent to keep me dry, although I do run hot.

@BackpackingUK
@BackpackingUK 2 ай бұрын
Keeping draughts out is HUGE. Being in a cold, draughty tent is miserable and you end up spending all your time in your sleeping bag. You also have to take better sleeping gear and clothing too. Taking a lighter tent often leads to substantially more weight elsewhere.
