@nonuser1532 The Stanford Prison Experiment (SPE) was a social psychology study conducted in 1971 at Stanford University that involved college students acting as prisoners and guards in a simulated prison. The experiment was led by psychologist Philip Zimbardo and his colleagues, and was funded by the U.S. Office of Naval Research. The study's goal was to examine how situational variables, such as role-playing, labeling, and social expectations, affected participants' behavior over a two-week period. However, the experiment was terminated after only six days due to escalating mistreatment of prisoners, which Zimbardo later described as showing how "ordinary college students could do terrible things". This is the effect of the uniform. It has been proven time and again to be a negative thing. It is better for people to police them selfs. And for the cops to police big Corp.

There are a few towns close to where I live that have 500-800 people and they all get along without a police department. The sheriff's department handles law enforcement. Though if a deputy swings through a town more than once a week I'd be surprised. It's a big county and a small sheriff's department.

How did three police officers provide 24/7 coverage? Were they always on call?
@GamerGateVeteran5 ай бұрын
Typically coverage would be divided between all 3 (yes, in most small town PD's the Chief of Police does work regular patrol duties). Id imagine someone takes most of the night shifts, someone takes most of the day shifts, and the third fills in the gap days and most likely gets the rest of their hours by working a few "overlapping" shifts that have the benefit of having more than just 1 Officer on duty at a time (probably make those overlaps for Friday and Saturday when there is likely more risk of DUI or other issues). Alternatively, not every PD operates 24/7, especially if they have low numbers and the town is mostly a quiet and peaceful town, so they could just work mostly "business hours" shifts just making sure that tourists and passers-by through the town arent getting up to nonsense. Speeding, acting like fools with the local diner staff, harassing locals, getting drunk and up to no-good, etc. Mostly a "keep the peace" force more than an "enforce the law" force. In those agencies, it is typical for every Officer (again, including the Chief) to take turns being the "on-call" Officer for certain days of the week or certain weeks of the month. Small town PD's basically operate as "public security" more than "law enforcement". They conform to the safety concerns of the citizens and the town and fill the unique voids between citizens and county level LE. Lock up the public buildings at the end of the day, open them up in the morning. Check on the handful of "problem areas" where the local kids usually try and hang out to get up to no-good. Be a visible presence for out-of-towners so they dont run through town like a bat out of heck. Be the closest responder for a call of someone getting into a wreck with a deer.

Maybe this news channel can receive a award for telling the entire criminal population this town is now without police. Just because any idiot can post online doesn't mean you shouldn't consider the results of doing so. I can tell you how to defend against a personal attack at a distance for five dollars but posting it online educates criminals that would use that information as a means of criminal use instead of defense against it. May this town realize you did them no favor and be extra vigilant and watchful, may God, keep them in divine providence.

It's all about the budget. A town with >1000 people is NOT sustainable without HIGH taxes to subsidize the cost of said police force. I lived in a town in S. Georgia that had just over 1200 residents and they could only afford 1 full time police officer and 2 part time officers. Those part time officers worked for the sheriffs department full time. Young guys without a family. Taxes pays their salaries and without those said taxes, you don't have said services.
