I collect anything old, interesting, and/or high quality. Old stuff was built to last. New stuff is built to break so you gotta buy another. Wood, steel, cast iron, stone, high quality glass, etc. are awesome. Basically anything but plastic, but some plastic was actually high quality.

I have collected Coleman lanterns for a few years. My last count was around seventy five. Plus two and three burner stoves. Also G.I. stoves. They are getting harder and harder to buy at decent prices. I hit about half a dozen flea markets and can usually find a couple of lanterns. When you start collecting you'll buy up anything green. Then after reality sets in and you find your running out of storage space. So now I am more selective in my purchases. I have lanterns from the middle 1920's that work like the day they were purchased. An added bonus is if you can get a lantern dated on your birth month and year. That is special and you can burn it on your birthday. Most people I talk to have fond memories as a kid sleeping over at grandpa's fishing cabin and making breakfast on the Coleman stove. Or out night fishing with your dad and hearing the hiss of the lantern and the hiss of an unfortunate moth getting too close to the glass and crashing and burning. They are almost all repairable. Parts are readily available. Most lanterns I get only require a clean up and they work perfectly. Enjoy the hobby and the wonderful stories people will tell you about their memories of lanterns and stoves. Also if possible light them outside, then when they are operating correctly, take them indoors. Just as a precaution. P.S. I have yet to get my birth lantern. I need September 1952. I have August, October, and November. I'll run across it one day. All part of the fun of collecting!

Old lamps and stoves, can be super inexpensive - so a cheap way to collect useful equipment. Lawn sales and Craigslist will get you some. I’m a lantern junkie too! I don’t have a German lantern, but I know when the Coleman lanterns have issues pumping like that it’s because the leather gasket has dried up a bit. If you remove it and let it soak in some grease that brings it back pretty effectively. Also adding oil to the oiler hole can help keep it lubed and holding pressure.

Always glad to see someone else keeping the home lights lit..literally. My first experience of a gas lanterns was camping with my dad's "borrowed" gear from his reservist armory...helps to have been the senior Company NCO to 'test the gear for field use'...1959? I'm not going to mention the 300 pound squad tent cots and C-rats/10-in-one goodies that made the trip... I've had a liking for them ever since. One military model I got at for free at a swap-off/dropoff day in my community...if you have something you don't want, drop it off, maybe pick up something else. I have many, the oldest is a Coleman single-mantle 242C from 1946. The latest is maybe 20 years old, I forget which model. One kero model a friend just gave me about a month or so ago. All are in ready-to-use state....I think I have around 9 or 10 all told. Some few years back we had a block party (they block off the street), and the entire street was illuminated with my lanterns AND about half a dozen oil lamps. I also have a couple single-burner Coleman stoves, four or five two-burners, and a three-burner base camp stove I got NIB with the original punch-card registration card and box etc. When we lost power (no heat, etc.) for five days in winter, the lanterns and a stove kept us warm-ish and safe.

Best damn crossover video! Have been collecting coleman lanterns since 2015. I love restoring them and making them work again. We still use them every time we go camping.

Great episode guys. I've had a Coleman "Peak 1" stove since the 1980's & couldn't guess how many meals or gallons of tea I've brewed up on it. Neary 40 years old & still going strong!

I got 2 Coleman lanterns and 2 Coleman stoves I'll never part with. They are beyond handy and great to have in the event of an emergency. Also a neat produst that you can buy on Amazon is a propane converter tube for your older Coleman stoves. It's $20 and I love it, and it's even more efficient since I don't have the weight of the white fuel tank that comes with it.
