Shout out to Join Cycling! I'm a North American who has been following cycling for many years; it had been difficult to get coverage before streaming services and the internet. Laporte was so confident in the sprint. Didn’t lay-off the wheel and get up-to-speed at all. Just cruised up next to the guy and did his sprint as if there was no other outcome possible.

swap roubaix with lombardia!! No one cares about Lombardia, having it in the Spring might make it more interesting. You'd get classics guys there, proper climbers preparing for Giro/Tour and more GC guys make give it a go. Roubaix in Autumn would make the season end with a Banger

Sshĥ tall for yourself in regard to Lombardia. Swapping with Roubaix would do Lombardia really well though. The problem with raves this time of the year is that 50% of the riders are mentally fatigued. Motivation is lower etc. Swapping races will hurt the legacy of Roubaix longterm. Ps i really like lombardia, ofcourse i like roubiax more, but Lombardia is a beautiful race.

@@Draregkoeliekalie I like Lombardia too, but most riders opt out and it doesnt really have the same prestige and allure as the Spring classics. GC guys can do well in Lombardia but after Vuelta, most are done for the season. But Roubaix isnt for climbers/GC guys so classics guys can peak in Spring for RVV and Autumn for Roubaix.

I have to say, roubaix after covid in october was the best 1 day race I ve seen so far. But you have to consider that usually at this time in the year you have a lot of riders out of form or crashed during the season so it never will be the race among the best which is a devaluation of the race

Great win by Laporte ! I don't know why Pedersen attacked so soon, if he had went with Laporte and Vacek I think he would have won. Also Tours is not in the north of France, it's in the center, the region is even called "la région Centre".

So now that there’s an official UCI world tour level “gravel world championship” for the last few years, do you think some of the one day races with multiple long gravel sectors should be reconsidered as “gravel” races over “road” races at the world tour level where the gravel wc would get to wear their rainbow jersey if they raced them? Seems like even though there are some classics or other big races that have all these sectors in them, they are still considered in the category of a road race and we don’t really have any big races that are categorized as actual gravel races.

Why not move the Ardennes classics to autumn? It makes more sense to me than moving Roubaix.

Ardennes = Fleche, LBL and Amstel. It's much easier to move Lombardia to the PR slot, move PR to the Lombardia slot. The semiclassics like Emilia and 3 Valli can be also moved, to the weekend of RVV as those are different riders. And they would provide, together with Lombardia, a better prep for riders doing the Giro.

@@l.d.t.6327 yeah it makes sense to move the race of the falling leaves to spring. Or not. I really don't think there is a need to mess up the calendar completely. The Flemish spring races and Italian autumn races should bookend the season. But I feel that the Ardennes races have a less strong connection to their spot in the calendar and they would play well with riders coming out of the Vuelta/preparing for Worlds. And also with the Italian hill classics. And it would probably be better weather. Liege or Fleche in the freezing April rain/snow is just sad.

Unpopular opinion, but what's with all this gravel stuff being added to races? This is road cycling. I don't expect the Moto GP or F1 to randomly add sections of offroad terrain. I just can't understand the decision-making behind it.

I think it’s fine to have a few races with gravel or cobbles in them to give a bit more variety and spice things up. But I agree that it shouldn’t be too much, especially not in Grand Tours
