A general consideration on cycling today: top riders are now able to climb climbs between 8 and 9% gradient at well over 20 km/h; anyone who has ever practiced cycling knows that being in the slipstream of another cyclist going at more than 20 km/h leads to a significant energy saving; the consequence of this is that now only climbs that are consistently 9-10% or more represent a "neutral" battlefield, capable of highlighting pure climbing skills like those of Vingegaard

Now w this deficit I can see only one way for vingegaard: pull a Landis tourc2006? Froome giro: has to go from approx 100k If he goes on an x hit day, he can get ice water every 5 min, car always there, if alone. If x hot, that constant ice water was big help to Landis They can ask Tom dumalon how fromme did it Greatness today, pogacar. I did not expect such level of greatness.,my error

pogi looks so strong and fresh even with that huge effort. I know vingegaard is not fully fit but damn he looks weak and putting on a few kgs surely doesn't seem like the worst idea

Jonas is pulling out his best numbers ever. There is nothing wrong with him. Yes he had a crash but he wouldn't be there and the team wouldn't be killing themselves for him if he was subpar. He's riding better numbers than 2023. It's just that UAE have used the reverse of what JV have been doing to Tadej, learning how to crack him, Tadej and UAE has learned what cracks him and trained to counter it. He's in recent interviews saying this (he's tweaked his training for the types of stages that normally break him). He's learned to stay cool, he's fueling better, he's just BETTER than Jonas is. It also wouldn't suprise me to hear UAE and Tadej used the Giro, especially the way the team rode, as a training excercise for the TdF People need to accept this and stop dismissing what Tadej is doing, he's immense. They both are to be fair. Jonas in the past has benefited from Tadej having bad days and really putting the hammer down when he has, this year, he's not having any of note

i get what you're saying with hes better than last year but if not for the crash he world probably be 5% better than he is right now

I can honestly respect this from Visma and JV more rather than just waiting for Pog to attack (which he will do even if he doesn't need to 😂) This shows they have confidence in JV's form. And it's probably the best stage to do so. It's hot, UAE rode a hard race in the previous stage, climb suits Jonas, worth the shot. Respectable performance from Jonas but this is Pog's year.

Having watched cycling for 40 years, I'm getting an uneasy feeling. I can understand the faster climb times with the better bikes and nutrition etc. The watt per kg numbers for the riders are... Explain to me how even an elite athlete can get off a bike after 40 minutes of max effort and be able to breathe comfortably and speak.

These guys are riding so much quicker than those in the Armstrong era who were doping up to their eyeballs. Honest question; are the marginal gains from aero kit and better science really making that much of a difference or is there anything else going on?

Why are people still dwell on the doping past decades ago? Can they not differentiate that today bikes are more modern with state of the art components? Not to mention, pricey for us common people? hehe. Also, good nutrition plus training and most importantly, unique human capability. The competitiveness and the will to excel and win can drives adrenaline to the max. So, just enjoy the show without malice and let the UCI do their work on doping.
