Why does this engine have a spark plug? is it just because a spark plug was a convenient thing to plug that threaded hole?
@classictractor10837 жыл бұрын
A good point. Before starting the engine, we need to heat up the cylinder head up to 600 C (1112 F), if the tractor is ‘cold’. Thanks to the sparc plug in the cylinder head, it was possible to warm up it with gasoline from a separate tank, before switching the engine to diesel. You don’t see this on our movie. Jörg warms up the cylinder head with a blow lump instead (which takes more time and is a kind of ritual with these vintage tractors).

@@classictractor1083 Some of the old 4 & 6 cylinder International diesels (TD-18, UD-18, 650 tractor) were like this, and they actually had a chambered cylinder head that would lower the compression and opened a track into an intake manifold with a carburetor for starting on gas to pre-heat and then switching to diesel with a large lever that closed off the low compression chamber, and put fuel to the injector pump. It worked pretty well for the most part, and sure saved on expensive starters.😉

Oh, god that Ursus is perfect! I love the "heavy" thumping sound of that engine. You see people with old Lanz Bulldogs on here and they turn the fly wheel, the engine sputters, and then they're frantically trying to ratchet the fuel lever to get fuel into the engine--but all that does is OVERFUEL it. All you needed was to use the fuel lever twice. What a beautiful machine! Anyone who says these things can't "keep up" with modern traffic is an idiot because that Ursus POWERS down that road!

@classictractor10834 жыл бұрын

The RPMs of a medium speed diesel as used in the old diesel locomotives I work on, just sheer torque, you can hear this tractor accellerate away at just 235rpm. Ursus was the brand name used by East Germany when proceeding production of the Lanz Bulldog?

Who is better? Lanz or Ursus
@classictractor10832 жыл бұрын
Both the German Heinrich Lanz AG and the Polish Ursus factory produced the D9506 and C-45 / C-451 in many very different versions. The first post-war C-45s were technically faithful copies of the pre-war D9506 in its straightforward version. The simple C45 equipment changed significantly with the later Ursus C-451 tractor, which is a very well-equipped version with a Bosch swing starter, 12V electrical installation, hydraulic jack, etc. In general, Lanz Bulldog tractors are made of parts of a higher quality, but Ursus improved the production quality over time, especially of the engine. For example, the Ursus factory perfected the production of engine heads, which allowed the engine to be tuned with a crazy 100% power increase. To summarize, the Ursus C-45 / C-451 and Lanz Bulldog D-9506 tractors are so identical in design that almost all parts can be moved between them (the gearbox is the only big exception).
