Yup, to cut down on costs and parts. It's quite genious.

@@Jan_372 until it sticks in the flywheel flys out and smashes then you can't steer it lol
@Jan_3723 жыл бұрын
@@macfletcherhotmail that really cannot happen as the mechanism pushes it out. It's like those flying disk toys that lift off when you stop pulling. And there is enough space so it cannot even get lodged.

thanks for sharing, I can't imagine getting that started every day.....back in the day !!!

Probably took less time to start a hot bulb engine then one that ran on steam, water took a long time to boil and not to mention, a long time to build up enough pressure to get the engine started.

+twistedyogert starting a steam engine from dead cold that took all day but if you use it every day and was already warmed up it would probley only take a hour

Tim Baer our neighbours had o a Bully back in the forties when a lot if farmers wouldnt work in Sunday so in harvest they had a little bare patch of ground in evrry paddock to park it on . They started it with a blowlamp Monday morning and let it idle every night till Saturday night when it was shutdown till Mon morning

One BIG single cylinder 8.8inch by 10inch stroke and i am guessing a fairly BIG flywheel, these engines produced 44hp, imagine having to do all that each morning when you wanted to go out to work the fields etc, a lot to be said for glow plugs and electric start on more modern diesels. Still this old girl did not look into bad a condition, still capable of the odd days work.
@Jan_3725 жыл бұрын
Yup, and it'll run on the cheapest of fuels. And it has 2 flywheels. This one even has flywheel-protection :D

Thats why Bulldogs are still running 40 years later. Actually they were a great piece of machinery, have seen several still being used in the 80s ploughing huge wheat paddocks, never missed a beat, going night and day till the jobs done. ,
