@@saengthipkeosaeng1127 yeah I can understand your concern. There are many Khmu villages in Laos. Hi mate, how r u? Your friend is struggling to explain what the “or Larm” is. I will try to have a crack. This is a typical northern Lao dish made with meat (chicken or beef) and variety of Vegetables. It is a very aromatic curdy stew with Lao dills, kafir lime leaf, lemongrass, eggplants, chilli and ground soaked rice. It may have been originated by the Khmu? (As far as I know, there’s no blood). But I am not so sure. But it’s definitely a northern Lao origin. Very tasty. You should try it. 🌶🌶🌶 PS. Head is considered the most sacred part of the body.

Khmu are Lao people. I would say Khmu are just about half the population of Laos. I'm originally from Lahanam the southern part of Savannakhet in Lao. I haven't been back to Laos in 20yrs but when I was there I couldn't believe how many Khmu was from my village but you couldn't tell if they are regular Lao or Khmu cause lots of them speak the native Lao language unless they tell you they are Khmu. Dam I wish I saw this a long time ago. Khmu food sounds basic but it's heavily dependent on what you can obtain on the current environment. Larb is a common dish but it requires only protein that can be the meaning of whatever meat you can obtain and readily consume mixed in with vegetables you have or can grab from the ground.

Craig. Touching head. It is about respect. You definitely cannot touch or stroke anyone’s head/hair who is older than you, however you can with with someone who is younger than you and who you know personally. Lao people like you said “Sabai sabai”. When you are talking to someone man or woman, they sometimes like to touch. In the U.S. or western society, we tend to overthink things. In Lao, it is just a part of friendship, bonding, acknowledging each other, a sense of belonging and communication. It’s about having fun with friends and enjoying the moments and there’s no alternative motive to it at all.
@liamluangrath58803 жыл бұрын
Also Craig. A woman is not supposed to touch a man’s head unless the woman is married to the man. That is the culture and respect.

Wow, you managed to extract a nice amount of information on Khmu cultures from those two young boys. In fact, a Lao prime minister, Thongsing Thammavong, who had preceded Thongloun Sisoulith (who has just been elected as Lao President on March 22 to replace Boun Gnang Vorachit) is of Khmu origin. Also, as I understand it, "Or Lam" is a famous mildly spicy stew dish with vegetables from Luang Prabang. Maybe the Khmu people also add blood in it too. You have probably tasted Or Lam sometimes while in Luang Prabang. A good English training for the boys, especially with a native English person. Again, a very interesting video.

@channguyen85293 жыл бұрын
Hi Craig. Today I decided to see what you had to say. Actual content of the video didn't teach much about Khmu culture. You start to talk in broken English like them but worse. You said 2 things in "slang": writin' and weddin'. They learn English by the books. These words don't appear as such in books. Hence the blank face of Vone. Speak English in proper English. Your Lao pronunciation needs more improvement: 1) What is your name? "Chau seu nhang?" @11:20 to 11:35 Vone said "Chau seu nhang?" and you repeated "Chau seu yang?" What = Nhang. Nhang has the "consonant" sound as in the last syllable in "cabaña". Listen to the video and look at Vone's mouth as he says Chau seu nhang. English doesn't have this sound but many Asian languages do. The other pronunciation is Kheu kan = same. The vowel sound is more like the eu in "turtle". Tell Vone to say it slowly. It's not Khoo kan, the "oo" sound. I also differ on your interpretation on western culture that it's OK for a boy and a girl to live together. It's certainly not OK in my book and many people who believe in God, as in christianity. So, it's also not OK there in Lao. Does it happen in real life? Yes, unfortunately. There's a great temptation to jump into bed and "try" this unknown activity out. However, This conjugal act can't be taken lightly as it will have some serious consequences. Are you also just living with the girl you travel with? With no commitment or real love whatsoever? I do want an answer to this topic.
@laoamericanlady3 жыл бұрын
Tell Vone Wiew foreign girls are very different from Lao girls. Foreign girls are not shy when it comes to approaching man this is from what I seen in the states. Just typical American girls that I seen because they are friends with my daughter they are about the same age with these two young men here. They watch how people eat sit. Manners are way different. They can’t stand people eat with their mouth open with food still in your mouth. Making loud noise when they chew the food😁. They don’t like and so do we to double Dipz the spoon or Chopstix in the Food. They will be afraid to kiss Vone Wiew because he is earring bugs right now 🤣🤣. All the people can touch younger peoples head but not younger people to touch all the people head it’s taboo and very disrespectful.
