I travelled down the Mekong and stayed on Luang Prabang for a few days and ate only soup and horrible European style food because I had had food poisoning in China Mal and was traveling scarred. It was a great place to visit however. I wish I hadn't been so nervous and had been able to try local specialities. My companion (ex girl friend) thought my fear was amusing and repeated several times that the only hospital in the country was closed and that if I feel ill again I couldn't get any help. I ended up losing seven kilos but trained very day running and won some races when I returned to Thailand.

Nicely done - cant go wrong with pretty women decorating a video ;-) That aside i had a really delicious multi-course lunch at the Elephant Restaurant on a side street off the main area of Luang Prabang. Lao VN and Cambodians have interesting and very flavorful ways of integrating lots of different veggies into their meals. This entire region is a really great place to visit, still developing but very interesting and very good people whos recent history was full of terrible destruction deprivation and mass starvation. More recently with peace tranquility personal autonomy and eradication of the well intended but disastrous Mao-ist policies of the Khmer Rouge their populations and cultures are now thriving.

A bit confusing - you're Thai but seems like that was your first time eating papaya salad and sticky rice. Thai and Lao food is basically the same especially if you're Isaan or from northeastern Thailand.

Turbo Vtec Hi! Thanks a lot for your question. I got asked a lot from my friends from many countries about food in Southeast Asia! Well, this is the local way of living here in ASEAN (Southeast Asia). We grew up with street food :) Then, we have high immunity..haha. Actually, nowadays, most places, the food is well cooked (with heat). You can observe the place before you decide. It is not raw food, well cooked, it should be fine. If it is raw or, for example, salads, you should look how they cook, containers they use, or how they wash the dishes (a lot of times you can see). Also, if your stomach is sensitive to spicy food, try to avoid spicy dishes. There are many healthy menus you can choose from in Southeast Asia. Research or ask your local friends in advance. I try to create more advice in this channel. Cheers!
