In this video, we will be talking about how to be happy from the wisdom of Lao Tzu. Lao Tzu, was an ancient Chinese philosopher and writer who is known to be the founder of Taoism. Taoism is a philosophy which emphasizes becoming one with the rhythms of nature - is called “the way” or “tao”. He is also credited as the writer of Taoism’s most sacred text, Tao Te Ching in which he associates the process of achieving real happiness with managing the 4 fundamental areas of life.
So here are 4 fundamental areas of life from the wisdom of Lao Tzu, that will help you to be happy -
01. Resources
02. Relationships
03. Self-development
04. Self-maintenance
I hope you enjoyed watching the video and hope that these insights will help you in finding your happiness.
Taoism is a Chinese philosophy attributed to Lao Tzu which contributed to the folk religion of the people primarily in the rural areas of China and became the official religion of the country under the Tang Dynasty. Taoism is therefore both a philosophy and a religion. Taoism teaches to embrace wonder and the joy in living gracefully with style. Lao Tzu is a central figure in Chinese culture, but his words can apply to people all over the world. Hope we could add value with this video.

Personally I think that giving a way of being happy is part of the constant frustration. How many times did we hear this cliché about eating veggies, exercise, sleep and others... We should not be worried about being happy. I mean, is it that bad not being? For me, the moment I stopped chasing happiness is the moment I became happier and living simplier. Life is too short to give a f*ck about what we idealise. Life is a mystery and my way of understanding is by accepting that we have no clue of what it is and that's fine. I think Einstein sayed a similar thing about not trying to understand the universe but instead trying to find our place in the universe. Get laid, drink, laugh at will and do your own things :)

@@karlhalmos-westram3221 You said it right! Not that I disagree with the 1st comment, however, I think also that is totally normal to give time and space to depression and sadness. It's normal to go thru things. Don't worry about always being happy happy happy. I agree the moment that you stop worrying about it the moment depression and sadness will disappeared too. I was told this by my psychologist and it made magic to me. Just enjoy life as it comes❤️❤️❤️🙏 EMBRACE IT

When Laozi said "A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving", he pretty much summed up how our happiness works and shows how the way our brains work contradicts our normative belief in happiness. Jonathan Haidt's Happiness Hypothesis is a good starting place to look further into the topic of happiness and see what multiple scientific research reports have to say in support of Laozi's statement!

“So what about happiness? Happiness is of two varieties: There is the happiness in the moment, which is the result of fun and play and, on rare occasions, true recognition of another person. Then there is happiness of an enduring nature, which is born of your satisfaction that your life is truly engaged. It is perhaps not as spectacular a happiness. You do not go around laughing all day, but it abides with you. No matter what happens to you or to the world, you have found your place, you have found your way, and there is a very great certainty that your way will lead you on.” *Wisdom from the Greater Community, Book 1*

Hi, I am a Malaysian Chinese. The sacred scriptures Tao De Jing was written in olden Chinese Language. I learned some of the verses during my secondary school in Chinese Language. Sometimes I wondered why western people know Lao Tze better than me. So, I started to learn Lao Tzu in English and not in Chinese. To my surprise, I found out there are some sharp insights when I learned Lao Tze in English. The text in olden Chinese Language in quite vague and sometimes ambiguous, in my point of view. Nevertheless, it may be due to the cultural differences between the western and the East. When I was in my secondary school, I also learned the history background when the scripture was composed. Lao Tzu, was one of a prominent scholars and library keeper during Zhou Dynasty which ruled over China for almost 800 years. Zhou Dynasty is popular for her eminent I Ching philosophy and the pi, the ratio of circle's circumference to diameter. After the fall of Zhou Dynasties, China was in chaos times and the times were regarded by historians as Spring Autumn Era and Three War Kingdom before the Great Emperor Shih Huang Di built the Great Wall of China. Confucius was born during Spring Autumn Era. Confucius learned I Ching when he was about 50 years old and at that time, he found life was miserable and couldn't be employed by any official jobs. Some studies said that Confucius met Lao Tze before he composed the Ten Wings of I Ching, as the complementary to the Zhou Dynasty 's I Ching. The book of Analects was not written by Confucius, however , was composed by some of his disciples who jotted down his sayings before he died. Why I address the history here? Because Lao Tzu, Confucius, Mencius, Mo Zi, Gui Gu Zi, Zhu Ge Liang generates different views, perspective and ideas based on the hexagrams in I Ching. They are co-related.

I think a lot of the "sharp insights" are due to being forced to translate characters into English. I have three different translations of the Tao. The literal one is the hardest for me to understand. I read that first, then another version, sometimes the sentences have three different meanings even in original form.

I still think about criticism that those who really want to help you, because they love you (love means understanding and accepting it in their reality, not yours) will not criticize you as a person and will criticize the action and eventually they will help you as much as they can not to make the same mistake a second time. Narcissistic schizoids will criticize the person, which is a reproach, leading to a poor self esteem of that person they try to ,,help"

“Grieve thou not over the troubles and hardships of this nether world, nor be thou glad in times of ease and comfort, for both shall pass away. This present life is even as a swelling wave, or a mirage, or drifting shadows. Could ever a distorted image on the desert serve as refreshing waters? No, by the Lord of Lords! Never can reality and the mere semblance of reality be one, and wide is the difference between fancy and fact, between truth and the phantom thereof. Know thou that the Kingdom is the real world, and this nether place is only its shadow stretching out. A shadow hath no life of its own; its existence is only a fantasy, and nothing more; it is but images reflected in water, and seeming as pictures to the eye.” - Abdu’l-Baha

Just because someone criticises you doesn't mean they are right, and that you should change accordingly and be thankful. Their comments about you may be driven by jealously or envy or just plain wrong. As for the Yin/Yang theory of health and illness - I think that's best filed under "historical views that were wrong" along with the theory of the "4 humours". For the rest of it - basically, Laz Tzu says moderation and the golden mean in all things is best. Just like Aristotle and practically every other philosopher except for Nietzsche who was all about excess and squeezing the life juice to the max.

Taoism is a paradox, there is some clashing in this philosophy. Like aren't those who seek a rewarding life and give to receive more than others in the end, are just as greedy as the takers? Those who take actually receive the least in return, and they are the true students and have the most potential for 'growth' in this philosophy, ignorance is avoidance of experience.

Hi. Watching your videos has been a part of my daily routine for over month now. May I suggest getting other people to do the voice over in some of your future videos? I think it will encourage your viewers more to watch consecutive videos considering the length of time you put into each of them. I’ll continue watching a video a day tho. That is only a suggestion. ☺️

Excellent video. Life isn’t always black and white though; sometimes it’s grey. Take people for example. How do you handle the grey areas successfully in order to bring goodness and happiness? Many thanks :)

@@noname3609 Me too, these people that say "just think happy thoughts" have no idea what cortizole levels are or any neurochemical related matters for that matter. Yet they have all the answers, such as " just be happy". Its like telling someone with cancer to just get rid of all the cancerous cells in their body! smh
