I wasn't initially going to comment, since others have said pretty much what I was going to say, that the video creates a false impression, that Laos still has this impressive array of wildlife, whilst the sad reality is that it simply does not anymore, tigers were declared extinct at least five years ago. This is a consequence of the appalling level of snaring going on in the all of Laos's forests and protected areas, and it is not just tigers, leopards have likely gone too and probably other animals. Camera trap evidence from Nakai Nam Theun (mentioned in the video) suggests that tiger, leopard, clouded leopard, and golden cats have now been extirpated from this protected area, it is a miracle that any wildlife survives. The situation is perhaps slightly better in Vietnam, a country I visited on a wildlife tour a few years ago, but again there tigers are likely already extinct, birds are hard to find except in well protected areas, my impression at the time, was that trying to do a similar wildlife tour of Laos would be pointless, because Laotians have trapped and eaten almost everything, seeing any wildlife is extremely difficult. This impression led me to question how much of the footage of animals in this video was actually filmed in Laos, were the Buff-cheeked Gibbons really filmed in Laos or more likely in Vietnam or Cambodia, I have visited Laos albeit over 20 years ago. What really prompted me to comment though, is the fact that the video ends with footage of what are referred to as Laotian Langurs, but they are absolutely not Laotian Langurs, the monkeys filmed are very clearly Grey Langurs, probably filmed in India, the Grey Langur is not found in Laos, the critically endangered Laotian Langur or Lao Langur is also called the white-browed black langur, because it is an entirely glossy black monkey, with white fur around the face and on the head, it does not look anything like the Grey Langurs shown in the film. I am all in favour of drawing attention to the wildlife of this region and can forgive the slightly misleading impression of how Laotian wildlife is doing, but to see footage of Grey Langurs misrepresented as Laotian Langurs is both extremely misleading and very disappointing, and certainly leads me to wonder if any of the wildlife shown in this video was actually filmed in Laos.

I’m Laotian living in U.S. and I’ve followed many Lao KZbinr. I’ve seen many villagers hunt every single animals they see in sight including very rare animals that i never seen before such as jungle turtles, gibbon monkeys got tie up and wild feral chicken with long beautiful tails that got into their traps, so there’s not much of protection here trust me. If only they get serious enough to protect these animals and environments.

Yes I recalled about fifty years ago all over Lao were like this and full of wildlife. I was bragging about such place in Lao to my wife and promised to take her see it. We finally got chance last year. But I was really embarrassed and disappointed to my wife. I drove up and to find such place but all I see bald mountain no trees. I feel so mad and sad as the same times.

Laos is home to a diverse array of flora and fauna, some of which are endemic to the region. However, the increasing pressures of deforestation, poaching, and habitat destruction pose significant threats to these species. By utilizing visual media to educate the public, we can foster a deeper understanding of the importance of conserving wildlife not only for the benefit of Laos but for the global community as well.

While it may be tempting to dismiss Laos as a country of limited wildlife significance, the videos depicting its rich fauna challenge this notion. They act as windows into an often-unseen world, fostering a greater understanding of the importance of biodiversity and the urgent need for conservation. This audiovisual approach not only emphasizes the wildlife present in Laos but also instills a sense of responsibility among global audiences to protect these irreplaceable natural treasures.

Where is this place in Laos that still has these rare animals? As far as I know, the Lao governments are so corrupted that they let the Chinese and Vietnamese black markets log almost every part of the country off. And, also mining every single raw material out of the country too. Most importantly, the governments are so corrupted that they let poachers kill every single one of these magnificent animals, and there are none left. As of right now, Laos is not a rainforest country anymore. It's more like prairie hills. That's why Laos is starting to have mudslides and flooding throughout.

When we think of conservation, one shining example comes to mind: the breathtaking beauty of Laos and its incredible wildlife! The importance of protecting the rich biodiversity of this Southeast Asian gem cannot be overstated. With its lush forests, pristine rivers, and diverse ecosystems, Laos is home to countless species, some of which exist nowhere else on our planet. It's heartening to see dedicated efforts focused on safeguarding these irreplaceable treasures. Organizations, local communities, and passionate individuals are coming together to promote sustainable practices, combat poaching, and raise awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation. Their hard work is instrumental in preserving the delicate balance of nature that sustains both animals and humans alike. Imagine the joy of witnessing rare species like the elusive Indochinese tiger or the majestic Asian elephant roaming freely in their natural habitat! Thanks to these conservation efforts, we can experience this wonder and contribute to a brighter future for Laos' wildlife. Every initiative, from establishing protected areas to engaging in community education, plays a vital role in fostering appreciation for nature and ensuring that future generations can marvel at these amazing creatures. a resounding “thank you” is in order for everyone involved in conserving Laos wildlife! Your commitment and passion are truly inspiring. Let’s continue to champion these efforts, celebrate our shared responsibility, and protect the wondrous wildlife that enriches our world. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that Laos remains a sanctuary for its unique and diverse wildlife for years to come!
