Can someone help me? If i want to use the lens my picture doesnt get taken... is there a setting i have to change on my canon R5?

I have the Sony A6600 and want a budget macro lens. I was inclined to buy the Sony 30mm. Is this better?
@DustinAbbottTWI Жыл бұрын
If you don't mind manual focus, there really isn't a better macro lens for APS-C that I've seen.

I always put filters on my lenses to protect them. Is there a type of lense that would enhance the capacity of this lense Macro Wise?
@DustinAbbottTWI Жыл бұрын
Not that I’m aware of. A polarizing filter can be useful for enriching colors and reducing reflections, but it will cut the amount of light that reaches the sensor.

Hi, Dustin. I'm kind of confused as to what lens to get. Currently looking at this and Sigma 56MM C for Sony. Which one is sharper?
@DustinAbbottTWI3 жыл бұрын
Both of them are incredibly sharp. Sharpness is not the problem. One is a manual focus macro lens and the other an autofocusing wide aperture telephoto prime. Make your choice based of what kind of lens you actually need.
@Elgsdyr4 жыл бұрын
Judging by your samples bokeh looks quite a bit better at close focus than at longer more general purpose focus distances.
@DustinAbbottTWI4 жыл бұрын
That's often true of macro lenses, though some are better than others. I didn't see anything really worth being too critical over.
@DennisMoncla4 жыл бұрын
Dustin, if you were in the market for a marcro for Sony full frame what would you choose? I currently default to the near macro on the Tamron 28-75 but we all know it isn't true macro. On my old Canon I used Kenko rings to do it.

While I haven't been able to test it yet, I suspect the voigtlander 110mm is all kinds of special: bhpho.to/3agWzxv | I own the 65mm F2 (which is only 1:2 Macro), and it is a stunningly good lens. That's manual focus, though.

Considering to get this or the Fuji 30mm Macro. The optical performance and magnification make this so much better, I think I will give up the autofocus rather than the optical quality :) Thanks for the review!

That would be my take.

Would love to see comparisons between native lenses and the lawa lineup for the price range
@DustinAbbottTWI4 жыл бұрын
That would be interesting, though demonstrating such comparisons would not tell the whole story. The Laowa lenses would probably do fairly well optically, but what you aren't seeing is all the extra work involved with them. No autofocus, no electronics, no corrections for video or JPEGs, manually inputting IBIS information, no sorting of images by EXIF data, etc...
@creativetom413 Жыл бұрын
@@DustinAbbottTWI You mean jpegs or videos come with 'extra' defaults and that would be the case with lenses with electronics because the body recognizes it?
@piotrch0 Жыл бұрын
@@DustinAbbottTWI The last argument I don't agree with. Use a LrC plug-in such as LensTagger, use up your time and pronto - you can add & sort EXIF data just like for lens with contacts. Been doing that for thousands of pictures now.
@mikethompson3305 Жыл бұрын
@@piotrch0 He's referring to the lack of EXIF information coming from the lens to the camera such as aperture information. That information is lost due to no electric interconnects within the lens. You can set the focal length manually inside the camera body.
@MCAQUIN04 жыл бұрын
how is this lens on a full frame sony?
@DustinAbbottTWI4 жыл бұрын
Fine, though you can only use it in APS-C mode, so you'll be limited by the resolution potentially. Not bad on the R series (18-28MP, typically), but pretty low on anything else.
@JamesWilliam702 жыл бұрын
Laowa do make a full frame version at 100mm at pretty much the same price.

I am the minority of people who absolutely need autofocus on macro lenses. I would configure the camera to perform focus bracketing and blend the shots together with Helicon Focus. Manual focus bracketing often leads to uneven focus steps.
